TNQ Drought Hub: Building resilience to future drought
About us
The Tropical North Queensland Drought Resilience and Adoption Hub (TNQ Hub) led by James Cook University is helping land managers and communities build resilience to future drought. The TNQ Hub is led by James Cook University and based out of the JCU Ideas Lab in Cairns. Working in a ‘hub and spoke’ model, the TNQ Hub is partnered closely with six natural resource management (NRM) groups across Tropical North Queensland (TNQ) to deliver drought resilience activities across the region. Funded by the Australian Governments Future Drought Fund under the Drought Resilience Research and Adoption Program, the TNQ Hub is one of eight Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hubs across Australia established to support land managers and communities prepare for drought. The Drought Resilience Research and Adoption Program objective is to invest into collaborative research, development, extension, adoption and commercialization activities. These activities will help land managers and Tropical North Queensland communities to become more prepared for, and resilient to, future droughts.

We would like to express our sincere thank you and appreciation to all those who joined us this week in planning for the future of the hub within the TNQ region. The productiveness and passion at the workshop was a testament to the value the industry sees in us and our collective mission for leading a regional and collaborative approach to building drought and climate resilience. While there were the thought-provoking moments that come with change, we are incredibly excited for what the future brings. We are so proud to showcase Millenia of Ag-Innovation, 10 - 11 February, Cairns | Gimuy We are incredibly thankful for the attendees that took the time to join us and for the speakers, sponsors, organisers, small businesses and staff that managed to deliver this event in the middle of a significant rain and flooding event. A big shoutout to the startups for sharing their journeys and the producers we visited who opened up their businesses and homes to us. And we can't forget the special dances and performances over dinner and the divine food we got to eat over the two days. Thanks to Sam, Barbara and their entire teams for making this possible. This event was hosted by the hub in partnership with Farmers2Founders and Local Indigenous Food Enterprise Services (LIFES), and was first ever First Nations-led AgTech event in Cairns. The event brought together farmers, AgTech innovators and industry stakeholders in Queensland’s agricultural sector together for two days of collaboration.
