In a nation-leading first, South Australia has unveiled a 10-year roadmap designed to harness the power of the state’s innovation places. The new Innovation Places Leadership Framework aims to generate over 42,000 jobs across the 22 innovation hubs, enhancing regional connectivity and integrating education, skills, and workforce programs. The South Australian Space Collaboration and Innovation Fund is pleased to announce a new round of funding. Applications will open later this month. This competitive fund offers up to $320,000 support for a South Australian-based space company in its collaboration with at least one international partner. South Australia boasts a thriving space sector encompassing everything from small satellite design and manufacturing to data analysis, launch operations, mission control, and ground stations. Our progressive approach is attracting leading venture capital firms and start-up funds, as we capitalise on the opportunities presented by NewSpace. An initiative of the South Australian Space Industry Centre in collaboration with the Defence Innovation Partnership, the fund is holding an information session on Wednesday 30 October. The upgraded Alawoona Avenue Reserve, located near the Tonsley Innovation District, officially opened last week by the City of Marion. The new reserve enhances the Tonsley area with green infrastructure and greater community connectivity. Notable features include ‘The Synthesis’ public art piece, symbolising the fusion of technology and nature, a visually striking tree-lined avenue that aligns with urban design principles, and improved access to Tonsley Innovation District via Alawoona Avenue.

John Azzollini’s first job was on the production line at Tonsley in 1986. Now he has built AZZO, a cutting-edge energy management company operating nationally and overseas that is headquartered in the same place where he started his career 37 years ago. As well as powering the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the AFL Grand Final over the weekend, they also look after SAHMRI and the 200,000m2 Westfield Sydney shopping centre – just name a few. The growth of Chrysos Corporation at Tonsley Innovation District is taking shape, with the expansion of their headquarters set to open later this year. Stage Two will more than double their footprint, showcasing the incredible innovation and success happening right here at Tonsley. Congratulations to the team at Chrysos Corporation, and to Leyton Property, Bella Build and Design and ON Architecture for delivering the new building. We can’t wait to see Stage 2 finished, and the continued growth of Chrysos Corporation.

Last week, the Australian Red Cross lifeblood bus visited the Tonsley Innovation District. They collected 62 donations during their visit to Tonsley last week – equating in as many as 186 lives saved. Congratulations to AZZO, Flinders University and SAGE Automation who were the top giving teams during this visit, each giving six donations each. In Australia, a blood donation is needed every 18 seconds, with a new donor required to come onboard every four minutes. One in three Aussies will need blood, but only one in thirty will give. The Lifeblood Bus will be visiting Tonsley again on 9 and 10 December.
