End the week on a high note with our #MedTech News Roundup. From cutting-edge diabetes tech and health wearables to orthopaedic innovations and major moves by companies like Stryker and Johnson & Johnson. Stryker recently added two new products to its Foot & Ankle portfolio after acquiring the Osteotomy Truss System (OTS) and Ankle Truss System (ATS) from 4WEB Medical. The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Annual Meeting will feature these systems. The ATS system, designed for limb length restoration and structural integrity during TTC fusions, features Truss Implant Technology to promote fusion. Additionally, Stryker's expanded portfolio reflects its commitment to providing surgeons with advanced orthopaedic solutions for foot and ankle procedures. https://lnkd.in/gPjgcFKH Johnson & Johnson is consolidating its medical device businesses under the Johnson & Johnson MedTech brand, including Ethicon, Inc., DePuy Synthes, Biosense Webster, Abiomed, and Cerenovous. The company emphasised that the rebranding will not impact the medical technology products and solutions currently available to customers. Johnson & Johnson has been expanding its medtech portfolio with acquisitions like Shockwave Medical for $13.1 billion and Abiomed for $16.6 billion. Executive VP Tim Schmid noted that while they have made large acquisitions, smaller deals still play a crucial role in their growth strategy. https://lnkd.in/gYeUAm2D Diabetes technology has seen significant advancements this year, particularly in continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps. The FDA cleared the first over-the-counter CGMs from Abbott and Dexcom, opening a new market for non-insulin users, including those with Type 2 diabetes. Abbott plans to release a second OTC sensor soon, while Dexcom launched the Stelo and Abbott's Lingo in the United States. Insulet also obtained FDA approval for its Omnipod 5 insulin pump, making it the first automated insulin delivery system available for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. https://lnkd.in/gkD2PqgN Apple continues to expand health features on its devices, now introducing sleep apnea detection for the Apple Watch and over-the-counter hearing aid technology for its AirPods. Both features require regulatory approval, which Apple expects to receive by the end of this month or fall. The sleep apnea detection uses movement data during sleep to identify potential issues, prompting users to seek medical attention if necessary. Meanwhile, the AirPods Pro 2 will offer a hearing test to help create personalised sound profiles for users with mild to moderate hearing loss. https://lnkd.in/gDhFRUiH Stay ahead of the curve and follow TRESP Recruitment - Medtech and Healthtech Experts for all the latest news.

Life’s twists and turns can be unpredictable—whether it’s a friend, family member, colleague, or teammate, everyone experiences ups and downs. In fact, 72% of Australians report elevated levels of distress. Regular, meaningful check-ins with those around us can make a significant difference. By fostering open conversations, we not only build trust but also create a supportive environment where people feel comfortable sharing their struggles. To inspire ongoing support within our team during R U OK? Day, we asked, "How do you take care of your own mental health and well-being at work, and what small actions can we all take to support each other every day?" Here’s what some of our team members shared 💬 Let’s keep these insights in mind and continue to foster a culture of empathy and support 💙 Mehdi Barzegari Marielle B. Sonny Li Kelly Hardaker Jamee I. Wearable health devices are revolutionising chronic disease management by providing real-time monitoring and personalised care. From continuous glucose monitors to cardiac arrhythmia trackers, these devices empower patients with insights that drive better health outcomes. Key Benefits: 1. Real-time monitoring: continuous access to health data for more proactive care. 2. Personalised care: customised interventions based on individual metrics. 3. Improved patient engagement: encourages active health management. 4. Early detection: Identifies issues like arrhythmias or glucose fluctuations early. 5. Enhanced chronic disease management: precision management for conditions like diabetes and heart disease. 6. Supports rehabilitation: tracks progress for orthopaedic and cardiac recovery. 7. Public health insights: aggregate data informs public health strategies. 8. Benefits include enhanced patient engagement and early detection of health issues, leading to more personalised and effective care. However, the journey isn’t without challenges. Key Challenges: 1. Data accuracy: Variations in sensor reliability, especially during activity. 2. Privacy and security: Increased risks of data breaches require robust protections. 3. System integration: difficulty incorporating wearable data into existing healthcare systems. 4. Cost: High prices can limit access, especially in underserved areas. 5. User engagement: Long-term success depends on patients' consistent usage. 6. Regulatory compliance: Devices must meet privacy standards like HIPAA and GDPR. Wearable health devices have significant potential to revolutionise chronic disease management once these issues are addressed and managed. As we continue to innovate and collaborate, wearable technology is likely to become a cornerstone in modern healthcare, driving improved patient outcomes and greater engagement. https://lnkd.in/gY2V7MPU #MedTechNews #MedicalDevices #HealthcareInnovation #MedTechIndustry #HealthTech #HealthcareTechnology #MedDeviceNews #HealthcareNews #MedTechTrends

Abbott is making strides in diabetes technology with a new collaboration with Beta Bionics, the creator of the iLet Bionic Pancreas. This partnership will integrate the iLet system with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM). The iLet Bionic Pancreas simplifies diabetes management with its autonomous insulin delivery, enhancing convenience for users and reducing the management burden for healthcare providers. Sean Saint, CEO of Beta Bionics, emphasised that this collaboration will allow users to customise their experience with their preferred CGM, enhancing convenience and choice. Launching in Q2 2024, the integration will be the first in the U.S. to combine the iLet with the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus. Users will be able to update their iLet software for this new CGM option. The combined platform will be available through pharmacies and durable medical equipment distributors, featuring a flexible pay-as-you-go model. This move follows Abbott's recent high-profile collaboration with Medtronic, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to advancing diabetes care. A favourite client of mine is looking for a sales superstar in Sydney who comes from a fast-paced environment like Orthopaedic trauma. 🏥 This is someone who has had strong success in a busy surgical sales role, but looking for a new challenge out of the space they are in and into a technical product expert role. 🤓 This role will still require theatre and surgical support. You will be an integral part of the surgical team and truly save lives in the process. 😷 👨⚕️ 👩⚕️ Message me if you are intrigued or would like to refer a contact of yours that fits the above profile. The medical technology industry is in constant motion, driven by groundbreaking advancements that reshape healthcare as we know it. This week's medtech news highlights high-profile leadership changes and strategic collaborations to landmark legal decisions and pioneering surgical innovations. Each story underscores the industry's relentless pursuit of innovation, setting new standards for what is possible in medical technology. Boston Scientific appointed Dr. Angelo Auricchio as the new chief medical officer for its rhythm management business in Europe. With over 30 years of experience in cardiology and electrophysiology, Auricchio will provide medical leadership and strategic direction to the company’s EMEA operations. He previously served as deputy head of cardiology at Istituto Cardiocentro Ticino in Switzerland and holds professorships in Lugano and Magdeburg. Auricchio expressed enthusiasm for joining Boston Scientific, aiming to advance cardiac rhythm management and improve patient outcomes in the region. https://lnkd.in/gbidDrS3 AstraZeneca and QIAGEN are partnering to develop a companion diagnostic test for genomically targeted medicines. This collaboration, which leverages Qiagen’s Qiastat-Dx platform, builds on their decade-long work in cancer diagnostics. https://lnkd.in/g9npNPnc Though Illumina sold GRAIL last summer after conflicts with antitrust regulators and activist investors, the European Union's highest court has ruled in Illumina's favour, stating the European Commission lacked jurisdiction to block the acquisition. Illumina had argued that Grail's lack of business in Europe at the time of the deal meant the Commission shouldn't have intervened. The ruling also annulled the basis for a hefty fine imposed on Illumina, which the company now no longer needs to pay. Despite this victory, Illumina remains with only 14.5% ownership of Grail after choosing to divest last December. https://lnkd.in/g9Da4nJs Dr. Terrence Crowder in Mesa, Arizona, has successfully performed the first surgery using Innosys' 3D-printed Ti standalone device. This procedure represents a significant advancement in spine surgery, and Innosys partnered with SPINE GEAR to achieve this innovation. https://lnkd.in/grhkfe5U Follow TRESP Recruitment - Medtech and Healthtech Experts to stay up to date on all the latest news. #MedTechNews #MedicalDevices #HealthcareInnovation #MedTechIndustry #HealthTech #HealthcareTechnology #MedDeviceNews #HealthcareNews #MedTechTrends
