❗2026 National Census will not count LGBTIQA+ communities❗ The Albanese government's decision to not include LGBTIQA+ communities in the next national census abandons the Australian Labor Party National Platform that states, “Labor believes that LGBTIQ+ Australians should be counted as part of the national census." This decision will have significant negative impacts on LGBTIQA+ communities, perpetuating the major data gaps that are needed to address health and wellbeing concerns for communities. Read the full statements from Equality Australia and the joint statement from LHA and IHRA: EA: https://lnkd.in/ggDPKXs3 LHA & IHRA: https://lnkd.in/gs-zZFAB [Image Description: Two graphic images featuring a pastel background with a light coloured shape on the top left corner. There is a white box in the centre with text. The first image reads: 2026 National Census will not include LGBTIQA+ communities. The lack of inclusion in the census will perpetuate significant data gaps on the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ communities around the country. Image 2 reads: For more information. This is such an important step forward to protect trans folks, and upholds the principles of the 1984 Sex Discrimination Act. 🏠 Homelessness Week 2024 - 5-11 AUG 2024🏠 Did you know that of all people experiencing homelessness in 2023, 23% were aged 12-24? Did you also know that LGBTIQA+ people are TWICE as likely to experience homelessness compared to their peers? We are experiencing a housing crisis and young LGBTIQA+ people are being affected more than ever. Help us sign the e-Petition to the NSW Legislative Assembly, 'Declaring a State of Emergency for Homelessness in NSW', and join us in calling for urgent action from the NSW government: https://lnkd.in/gVB_cFS4 We also wanted to take this opportunity to thank StreetSmart Australia for their wonderful work in addressing homelessness - and also for their ongoing support of Twenty10 that helps us continue to provide housing for young people during these difficult times. #HomelessnessActionNow [Image ID: a series of graphic images featuring a pale blue and purple gradient background.
