Congratulations to BHP on trialling the first-ever battery electric Toyota Motor Corporation HiLux double cab prototype at their Port Hedland iron ore operations in Western Australia. The trial will commence in late November and will run for a 12-month period. The battery electric HiLux double cab will be used in applications traditionally performed by diesel-powered light vehicles. Once complete, BHP will provide feedback to Toyota. BHP president Australia Geraldine Slattery said the Big Australian was excited to trial the first-ever battery electric HiLux: “Our ambition to electrify our light vehicle fleet and lower greenhouse gas emissions across our operations depends on enabling technology that can only be achieved through collaborations like this, with leading suppliers like Toyota,” Slattery said. At this year’s MINExpo INTERNATIONAL, one message stood out loud and clear: the future of mining is all about automation, and it’s evolving fast. From fully autonomous loaders to cutting-edge robotic solutions that enhance safety, automation is reshaping the industry in ways that were once unimaginable. For decades, automation in mining focused on engineering – machines like conveyor belts and robotic arms made work faster, safer, and more efficient. But now, the world is witnessing a shift beyond mechanical systems. The rise of intelligence-based automation means mining technology isn't just following commands – it is learning, adapting, and making decisions on the fly. In the unpredictable world of ore extraction, this intelligence offers game-changing insights. Imagine real-time adjustments to ore extraction, more accurate grade control, and optimised operations – all powered by advanced AI systems. In an industry where even small improvements can save millions, these intelligent solutions could revolutionise how mines operate. Whether it is predicting supply chain issues or fine-tuning blast grids for maximum efficiency, intelligent automation is unlocking a new level of precision. 🦾💡 Interested in our UFR Haulage collaboration with GOLD FIELDS Australia at their Granny Smith mine? Over the past year, the Universal Field Robots team has conducted extensive testing underground at Gold Fields’ Granny Smith mine, validating a range of autonomous driving, collision avoidance, underground localisation and safety assurance systems. After successful testing in isolated mine sections, UFR is currently validating autonomous driving on the main decline during shift changes – a significant milestone for both UFR and Granny Smith mine. The team will fit the UFR Haulage system on three more trucks by the end of the year. Mark Glazebrook, General Manager Granny Smith, said: “When Gold Fields started on our modernisation journey, one of our priorities was to ensure any solutions were agnostic to final interface or fleet. The partnership with UFR has given us the opportunity to develop and test this program in our own operations.” Universal Field Robots’ Managing Director, Jeff Sterling, said: “We are seeing an increasing demand and trend for OEM-agnostic and interoperable solutions from our customers. More and more, customers no longer want to be locked into a single automation solution provider or OEM. Building on the work we are doing with Gold Fields, we are advancing several opportunities to retrofit existing truck fleets with UFR autonomous haulage solutions.” Join us as we shape the future of mining, one innovation at a time > https://lnkd.in/gbWnn7m #Resources #Mining #Technology #MiningAutomation #Interoperability #UndergroundMining #Haulage #Innovation #FutureOfWork #Robotics #Automation #Safety #Efficiency #Sustainability #InternationalMining #GoldFields #UniversalFieldRobots Dush Daniel Kerry Hannah Kimberley
