As part of our commitment to supporting local communities, Whitehaven was delighted to make an in-kind donation in December to the Nungaroo Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) of two baskets to be used as fire pits. Nungaroo LALC is creating a space to bring the community together to enjoy during the cooler months. One of the fire pits is located at the LALC while the other has been placed at the old Girl Guide Hall. Whitehaven's Aboriginal Community Relations team was also fortunate to take part in Nungaroo’s Community Cultural Day, a well-attended event that brought the community together through cultural activities and storytelling.
About us
Whitehaven Coal is proud to be the leading Australian coal producer. Throughout our 20-year history, we have helped to power developed and emerging economies in Asia where there is strong and growing demand for our product, particularly for use in high-efficiency, low-emissions coal-fired power stations. Our coal is highly sought-after for its unique properties, including the fact it delivers among the lowest carbon emissions per tonne of coal consumed in the seaborne trade. Following the transformational acquisition of the Blackwater and Daunia mines, our portfolio will shift toward metallurgical coal, with approximately 70% of our revenue expected to come from metallurgical coal and 30% from thermal coal. We expect demand for our products to remain strong, particularly throughout our key Asia markets. Metallurgical coal is a critical component in steel making and our thermal coal will continue to have an important role to play in supporting global energy security during the multi-decade energy transition. We operate six mines (five open-cut and one large underground mine) in the Gunnedah Coal Basin of NSW and Bowen Basin of QLD. Our operating assets are complemented by two high-quality, near-term and large-scale development assets being Vickery, near Gunnedah, and Winchester South, near Moranbah. These operations are supported by offices in Sydney, Newcastle, Gunnedah, Brisbane and Tokyo. Over more than two decades, including over 15 years as a publicly-listed entity on the Australian Securities Exchange, we have developed a reputation for excellence in project delivery, safe operation, and targeted investment in the local economy and community.
