Is Western Australia’s New Wine Frontier the Next Big Hit for Chinese Buyers? While Barossa reigns as Australia’s best-known wine region in China, a recent tour took a delegation of Chinese wine buyers off the beaten path to uncover Western Australia’s hidden treasures. From September 29 to October 6, 2024, a delegation of Chinese wine buyers embarked on a discovery tour of Western Australia including the famed Margaret River and the lesser-known Great Southern Wine Region, home to Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker, and Porongurup. This marked the first visit by Chinese buyers since the removal of high tariffs on Australian wine in late March, generating widespread interest from both sides of the pacific. Don Punch, Western Australia’s Minister for Regional Development, personally welcomed the delegation, underscoring the significance of the visit. But how did these emerging wine regions fare in capturing the buyers’ interest? Read whole Vino Joy News article here: https://lnkd.in/g5UNQ9yU

Women currently or previously employed in wine and grape industry occupations over the past 10 years are being invited to take part in a Wine Australia-funded study aimed at gaining deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities related to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion within the Australian wine sector. The study delivers on Wine Australia’s commitments in the One Grape & Wine Sector Plan released in August to improve diversity and inclusion in the sector and in leadership and attract and retain skilled workers. Expressions of interest to be involved in the study should be received by the research team from Charles Sturt University and UNSW by no later than 31 October 2024. Feeling proud to be named one of Australia’s recipients of the 2025 New Zealand Wine Sommelier Scholarship, alongside Liinaa Berry Since its launch with Sommeliers Australia in 2015, the scholarship has grown into a global initiative, giving Sommeliers an incredible opportunity to connect with New Zealand’s wine regions on a deeper level- a once in a lifetime time opportunity! I’m excited to learn, explore, and most of all… lick some NZ vineyard rocks- bring it on!

Congratulations to Darran Stone for winning the Chardonnay Top Gold and Best of Region Trophy for Margaret River, at the 2024 James Halliday Australian Chardonnay and Cabernet Challenge, for the 2023 Stone + Thunder Calm Before The Storm Chardonnay. This is even more special given it is the first release of this wine! Whilst certainly not the first release or first Trophy for the Xanadu Wines Cabernet Sauvignon, it still a great result for a great wine. Congratulations to all trophy and medal winners.
