WHIN's recent AGM was a chance to meet, mix and reunite with WHIN members, partner organisations, supporters, current and former staff. A traditional dance by performer Alinta was followed by a showcase of the 'Taking ACtion' affirmative consent project led by Megan Elias and Banksia Gardens Community Services (more of that in a special post today). We released WHIN's mint-fresh annual report, showcasing the impact our programs are having across gender equity, gendered violence prevention, sexual and reproductive health, economic equality and more. Find it at https://lnkd.in/eGuGYCFa Thank you Shazia Syed for taking such beautiful photos.

WHIN's recent AGM was a fantastic forum to hear about the successes of 'Taking ACtion: Affirmative Consent in the North'. It's a peer-led project to build the skills and confidence of young people to talk about affirmative consent, sexual rights, pleasure and sexual violence prevention. WHIN has been working with Banksia Gardens Community Services on this initiative. See www.takingaction.org.au for more info. Thanks *Jessica Leonard* for these fantastic photos (as always!) Watch this space for more about the AGM soon.
An incredible day yesterday at the Annual General Meeting for Women's Health In the North (WHIN). Hearing about the Taking ACtion project from project lead Megan Elias and the wider project team was a highlight. Congratulations on an amazing achievement!

WHIN’s economic equality work has been profiled in the Maribyrnong & Hobsons Bay Star Weekly! Manasi Wagh, Manager Economic Equality, explains how shared life experiences are a feature of the award-winning ‘Let’s Talk Money’ program: 'I came here as an educated person, but still struggled to know which bank to go to and what accounts to open because the names were different, the terminologies were different. I did not know what my financial rights were, what my responsibilities were, so these things are all taken into account in designing the [Let’s Talk Money] program. ‘Let’s Talk Money' provides tailored financial education to multicultural women through a peer education model where migrant women are recruited and trained in financial literacy, to then educate others from similar backgrounds. 'This approach has proved very successful because not only do the educators have the language skills and cultural understanding but the lived experience of migrating to this country', said Ms Wagh.’ https://lnkd.in/gkiJ-2NT Learn more about the work covered in the article by visiting our dedicated Economic Equality website: https://lnkd.in/gTP_iA3i

📃 Media Release: Victorian Women's Health Services Respond to Senate's Final Report on Menopause and Perimenopause The Women's Health Services Network (WHSN) welcomes the Senate Community Affairs References Committee's final report on menopause and perimenopause. This report represents a significant step towards improving care and support for women across Australia, reflecting many of the key recommendations from the WHSN submission. The report addresses critical issues such as the need for comprehensive research on menopause experiences, improving medical practitioner training, reviewing Medicare Benefits Schedule items, and launching a national awareness campaign to reduce stigma and improve understanding. The WHSN emphasises the importance of addressing barriers faced by women in rural and regional areas and taking a stronger intersectional approach to menopause care. There is also a strong call to enhance the capacity and capability of health practitioners, which aligns with recent findings from the Victorian Inquiry into Women's Pain. We look forward to working with Ged Kearney MP and Mark Butler MP to ensure these recommendations lead to tangible outcomes for women across Australia.
