Queensland's Truth-Telling and Healing Inquiry Chairperson, Joshua Creamer has called out the state government’s decision to put the inquiry on pause. Since beginning its sessions and hearings on July 1, the inquiry has made substantial progress, collaborating closely with communities to uncover the state's true history and pave the way for future healing. Mr Creamer confirmed the inquiry is now on hold, with its future pending a review after he meets with Minister Fiona Simpson tomorrow afternoon. He urged the government to step up to the opportunity to listen not only to the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people but also to the many non-Indigenous Queenslanders and Australians who have shown their strong support for this significant process. Despite the Queensland Premier promising the process would be approached with "respect and decency," Mr Creamer has yet to hear from David Crisafulli MP. Yesterday at the National RAP Conference in Brisbane, I stood beside Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry QLD Commissioners in solidarity with the recent "PAUSING" of Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry QLD. On belhalf of myself and my fellow Commissioner of Yoorrook Justice Commission, our hearts goes out to our Queensland sisters and brothers during this challenging time. Let me be clear: Governments can't cancel history. You can't put a lid on truth. As Commissioner of Victoria's Yoorrook Justice Commission, I've witnessed how truth-telling transforms communities and builds bridges, not barriers. Those who fear truth-telling fail to understand its power to heal and unite. Freedom of expression isn't just a slogan - it's the cornerstone of democracy. If Queensland's leadership truly values this principle, they must understand that it includes the freedom to be honest about our history. ALL of our history. In Victoria, we've seen firsthand how truth-telling heals divisions and brings communities together. When we create respectful spaces to share our stories, we build bridges of understanding that benefit everyone. Our experience shows that confronting our shared history – both its triumphs and challenges – strengthens rather than divides us. To our Queensland colleagues: The path to truth may face obstacles, but it cannot be permanently blocked. Your stories matter, your voices matter, and your truth matters. The Yoorrook Justice Commission stands in solidarity with Queensland's First Peoples. We remain committed to supporting truth-telling initiatives across Australia, knowing that only through honest dialogue can we build a stronger shared future. Truth-telling will be a major focus, with a plenary panel discussing its role in reconciliation at 11 am, featuring representatives from the Queensland Truth-Telling and Healing Inquiry and the Victorian Yoorrook Justice Commission. At 12 pm, a media briefing will follow with Joshua Creamer, Chairperson of the Inquiry, Sue-Anne Hunter, Commissioner of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, and Karen Mundine, CEO of Reconciliation Australia.
