Young innovators, scientists, engineers and change makers from around the world came to Baku for Green STEAM Azerbaijan Festival. This year festival is very special - organized just few weeks before #COP29, it is promoting STEAM education and helping students build 21st-century skills. We are proud to have nearly 100 boys and girls supported by our joint initiative with Elm və Təhsil Nazirliyi - The Ministry of Science and Education and STEAM Azerbaijan participating and competing in the festival. “We need to equip healthcare workers to protect future generations from pollution”, said Zumrud, trainer on children's environmental health. In September – October 2024, UNICEF and Public Health and Reforms Center trained over 120 healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, gynecologists, midwives and nurses, on the impact of pollution and climate change on children's health. A participant noted, “The training provided practical insights to help protect our youngest patients.” Ahead of COP29, UNICEF is partnering with health authorities in Azerbaijan to incorporate climate change and environmental health topics into the national curriculum for healthcare professionals. This partnership aims to build the knowledge and skills of healthcare workers in diagnosing and managing diseases related to environmental hazards and promote sustainable healthcare practices. "Investments in human development to strengthen climate resilience must begin with investments in children" I was honored to represent UNICEF at the landmark event titled “Empowering Resilient and Sustainable Future: The Role of Human Development in Climate Action” at the Heydar Aliyev Center on 11 October 2024, within the framework of Pre-COP in Baku. See the video from event bit.ly/3BSUbzS Zooming out on our global efforts, UNICEF is not only supporting Azerbaijan and previous COP Presidencies to mainstream climate in their education systems, but we are also assisting governments in every continent to ensure that children most affected by climate impacts have access to climate education, green skills for climate adaptation, and can learn in safe environments that can withstand climate shocks. In Azerbaijan, we work with Elm və Təhsil Nazirliyi - The Ministry of Science and Education to implement several education initiatives, including Green Skills through STEAM. This project enables Azerbaijani children to explore their talents in science and technologies and promote development of eco-technologies to meet needs in their communities and beyond COP29 Azerbaijan Nigar Arpadarai UNICEF Europe & Central Asia Regina De Dominicis Kitty van der Heijden George Laryea-Adjei United Nations in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva

As we approach #COP29, the new collective quantifiable goal on climate finance will be crucial in shaping how we support children and communities disproportionately impacted by climate change. 🌍 The goal must include provisions for education and health, as both are essential for building climate resilience. Governments must also prioritize these areas in their national climate pledges (NDCs) by allocating domestic resources effectively. Together, we can build a sustainable future #ForEveryChild. 💪 COP29-a yaxınlaşmaqda olduğumuz bir vaxtda, iqlim maliyyələşməsi üzrə kollektiv ölçülə bilən hədəfin müəyyənləşməsi müstəsna önəm daşıyır. 🌍 Belə ki, bu, iqlim dəyişikliklərindən qeyri-mütənasibə təsirlənən uşaqlara və icmalara göstərəcəyimiz dəstəyi formalaşdıracaq. Əsas məqsəd təhsil və səhiyyə istiqamətlərinin iqlim maliyyələşməsinə daxil edilməsidir, çünki, bunlar iqlim dayınıqlılığı üçün əhəmiyyətlidir. Eyni zamanda, hökümətlər yerli resursları effektiv yönləndirməklə bu istiqamətləri öz Milli Səviyyədə Müəyyən Olunmuş Töhfələrində (NDC) də prioritet etməlidirlər. Birlikdə #HərBirUşaqÜçün dayanıqlı gələcək qura bilərik.💪 COP29 Azerbaijan UNICEF Europe & Central Asia
