"President Horst Köhler exemplified the genuine Africa-Europe partnership we need." The Africa-Europe Foundation is deeply saddened by the passing of their dear colleague Horst Köhler, who was a hugely respected member of the Foundation’s Africa-Europe High-Level Group of Personalities. As former President of Germany who worked for what he called 'a genuine partnership between Europe and Africa’, he brought vast expertise to the High-Level Group and the inception of the Africa-Europe Foundation, with a capacity for the frank and honest dialogue so critical for trust-building and a real partnership of equals. We extend our deepest condolences to Horst Köhler’s family and friends. https://lnkd.in/dFVvX47g.

Mo was honoured to have been invited by his esteemed friends, Akinwumi Adesina and Ajay Banga, to join the #Mission300 Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam this week. Today, nearly 700 million people around the world lack access to basic electricity – with over 600 million of them in Africa. This is a crisis we cannot ignore ‼️ Lack of energy access affects education, healthcare and businesses. As we approach the Agenda 2030 deadline, Africa is significantly off-track in meeting its SDGs, especially when it comes to eradicating poverty. Increasing access to energy is a huge part of turning that around 📈 The global climate conversation, largely led by already developed nations where energy access is given, has focused mostly on mitigation. Yet, Africa's immediate priority is an adaptation, and the urgent need for universal energy access is too often overlooked. But Africa is taking charge. This week, more than two dozen African heads of state have gathered in Tanzania for #Mission300, to pledge their commitment to transforming their energy sectors and expanding access. A landmark moment, as 12 countries prepare to sign National Energy Compacts aimed at strengthening their utilities, attracting private investment, and creating the right environment for renewable energy and clean cooking solutions ☀️ View the #AfricaEnergySummit recordings here: https://lnkd.in/etFyEUVE #PoweringAfrica

🌍Strengthening cooperation between Africa and Europe in sustainable finance is critical to tackling various multifaceted challenges to unlock development. 🎯 Europe's influence in multilateral bodies, including the Bretton Woods institutions, gives the EU and its member states significant weight to advocate for governance reforms beneficial to Africa. 🎯Collaborative efforts between the AU and the EU could capitalize on Africa's resource potential and contribute significantly to the sustainable finance sector. 🔖Delve into our Infosheet Bulletin on Sustainable Finance and Revenue Potential for more https://lnkd.in/ddYTusRt. #AUEUTracker #FutureAfricaEurope

⚡️The Africa Energy Summit concluded with a landmark $70 billion commitment from development institutions to Mission 300, an initiative accelerating energy access for 300 million people across Africa by 2030. 💰With 30 African leaders pledging reforms for reliable and affordable electricity, France reinforced the cause with a $1 billion commitment. 🌍This marks a significant step toward closing Africa’s energy gap and unlocking opportunities for cross-continental partnerships, explains Edward Chibwili. 🌍Amid global crises reshaping energy dynamics, deeper Africa-Europe collaboration is crucial. 📌At #COP29, limited progress on the Mitigation Work Programme and no agreement on the Just Transition Work Programme underscored missed opportunities for ambitious climate action. ⚡️To advance shared priorities, both continents must align on NDCs 3.0 and accelerate key initiatives like the Africa Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) and the Continental Power Systems Master Plan (CMP). ⚙️With momentum from the #Mission300 Africa Energy Summit, the AU’s #G20 membership, and the upcoming AU-EU cycle in 2025, Africa and Europe can drive a bold climate and energy agenda together. 💡Read more ➡️https://lnkd.in/dhXcwcct. #SDG7 #AUEUTracker #FutureAfricaEurope International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), The Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA), The Rockefeller Foundation International Institute for Sustainable Development, Eurostat, International Energy Agency (IEA), The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP)

⚡️The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania kicks off today. African leaders and partners will commit to ambitious reforms and actions to expand access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030. The summit is expected to yield two significant outcomes: 1️⃣The Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, outlining commitments and practical actions from African governments to reform the energy sector. 2️⃣The first set of the National Energy Compact will serve as blueprints with country-specific targets and timelines for implementing critical reforms.
Tanzania's President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan welcomes fellow African leaders, delegates and partners to the #Mission300 Africa Energy Summit 2025 to be held from 27 - 28 January, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, #Tanzania. The Summit is jointly hosted by the Government of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and The World Bank Group. It is supported by international partners The Rockefeller Foundation, The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). #PoweringAfrica #PoweringTanzania ⚡️

🌊Ocean governance has long remained an undervalued dimension of Africa-Europe relations and is seen as a missed opportunity to advance an ambitious ocean governance agenda. 💰With less than 1% of Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding allocated to ocean development internationally, SDG 14: Life Below Water is the most underfunded of all SDGs. 🌍How can we unlock the shared ocean potential between Africa and Europe? 💡Visit https://lnkd.in/d5NpaSVZ to learn more! #FutureAfricaEurope #OceanGovernance #SDG14 Amb. 🌍The Africa-Europe partnership holds great potential for the paradigm shift needed in international cooperation. ⌛️It’s time to move beyond outdated development models where Europe proposes solutions for Africa’s challenges, and Africa seeks pledges from Europe. 🤝Instead, we should aim for a win-win partnership based on equality, mutual learning, shared interests, and opportunities. By combining our assets—capital, natural resources, technology, and expertise—there’s much to gain. ✍🏼The AEF Co-Presidents outline clear pathways to turn renewed global commitments into meaningful action. 💡Learn more: bit.ly/3TIJQgb
