We would like to welcome Stuart Askew from Procter & Gamble to the BIC Board. His expertise will be invaluable. He joins as Serge Creutz at Dow leaves the Board. We thank Serge for the years of contribution to helping us with our mission to grow bio-based businesses and realise Europe’s sustainable, circular, bio-based transition.

BIC's Marco Rupp was part of a panel on #bioeconomy as driver for #competitiveness and #sustainability at an event organised by the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU. 🎇 It was great to hear that EU Commissioner Jessika Roswall will be a champion of the #bioeconomy! BIC and our members are looking forward on working with her. Let’s capitalise on the assets in Europe's bioeconomy. We are in a #partnership with the European Commission to support innovation and scaling up in the #biobased industries - the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU). But that's not the only partnership we care about. BIC’s Samuele Ambrosetti was in Aveiro yesterday with Oliver Zobell for the Portuguese Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Info Day. More than 70 participants joined the workshop hosted by BIC member RAIZ - Forest and Paper Research Institute (The Navigator Company) and organised by ANI | Agência Nacional de Inovação Samuele and Oliver explained the CBE JU call for proposals 2025. It was a very interactive session with several Portuguese beneficiaries reporting their direct experience in proposal preparation and project development under CBE JU and other Horizon Europe programmes. Capping the day was an informative visit to RAIZ's labs and pilot facilities in the beautiful scenery of the Quinta de São Francisco arboretum. We have just published our Trend Report 2024-2025, focusing on how and why Europe should harness the potential of #biomanufacturing. In the report, we: ✨ Look at the current situation and possible future of biomanufacturing regulations in Europe, with input from EU #bioeconomy stakeholders, including representatives from the European institution, NGOs, think tanks and private sector companies. ✨ Provide case studies from companies effectively using biomanufacturing. ✨ See what results can be achieved by better combining biomanufacturing with artificial intelligence, and also with the textile industry. ✨ Compare how biomanufacturing is treated other parts of the world. ✨ And, make policy recommendations for improving and increasing biomanufacturing based on best practices and commercial needs. BIC's Marco Rupp presented our paper outlining the most pressing actions for the European bioeconomy to be tackled during this mandate. The paper was co-authored with ERRIN, the organisers of today's event - which focuses on the upcoming update of the Bioeconomy Strategy. Joining Marco are Peter Wehrheim and Emmanuelle Maire of the European Commission's EU Science, Research and Innovation and EU Environment and Climate respectively, as well as Gianpiero Petruzziello of ERRIN.
