Leading engagement on a European circular bioeconomy
About us
The Biobased Industries Consortium or BIC is a European association that was established in 2012 to collectively represent the private sector in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the Bio-based Industries with the EU - the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU). BIC's membership now includes more than 200 member companies (large and small) and includes growing representation from new actors engaged in the bioeconomy across the full value chain e.g. brand owners. BIC also has around 165 associate members including Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs), universities, European associations and organisations. Technology Platforms (ETPs), public institutions, regional organisations and private banks. It is also host to a unique mix of sectors from agri-food, marine and aquatic, technology providers, the forest and paper-based sector, chemicals and materials, waste, energy and brand owners.

BIC's Marco Rupp was part of a panel on #bioeconomy as driver for #competitiveness and #sustainability at an event organised by the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU. 🎇 It was great to hear that EU Commissioner Jessika Roswall will be a champion of the #bioeconomy! BIC and our members are looking forward on working with her. Let’s capitalise on the assets in Europe's bioeconomy. BIC will continue to create the business cases of tomorrow by scaling up innovative solutions, helping to defossilise Europe. #biobased Also at the event were: Sari Multala; Kristin Schreiber; Hans Sohlström (Stora Enso); Henrietta Moon; and Stefan Köhler.

We are in a #partnership with the European Commission to support innovation and scaling up in the #biobased industries - the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU). But that's not the only partnership we care about. We greatly encourage the 500+ companies and organisations with BIC membership (in a variety of sectors and across the value chain) to see how they can also WORK TOGETHER to increase #business and #competitiveness, reach the market and ultimately help Europe to cut its use of fossil-based products and processes, fulfilling the aims of the Green Deal. #greengoals #greentransition #bioeconomy 🎬 In this video, you'll hear from some of our members: Sofie Lodens (AmphiStar); Stuart Askew (Procter & Gamble); Philip Scholten (Bloom Biorenewables); Katariina Kemppainen (Metsä Spring); and Sarah Hosking (Unilever)

BIC’s Samuele Ambrosetti was in Aveiro yesterday with Oliver Zobell for the Portuguese Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Info Day. More than 70 participants joined the workshop hosted by BIC member RAIZ - Forest and Paper Research Institute (The Navigator Company) and organised by ANI | Agência Nacional de Inovação Samuele and Oliver explained the CBE JU call for proposals 2025. It was a very interactive session with several Portuguese beneficiaries reporting their direct experience in proposal preparation and project development under CBE JU and other Horizon Europe programmes. Capping the day was an informative visit to RAIZ's labs and pilot facilities in the beautiful scenery of the Quinta de São Francisco arboretum. Special thanks to Maria Joao Fernandes (ANI) for organising and to Carlos Pascoal Neto (RAIZ) for hosting the event. #CBEJU #HorizonEurope #biobased #proposals #bioeconomy

We have just published our Trend Report 2024-2025, focusing on how and why Europe should harness the potential of #biomanufacturing. In the report, we: ✨ Look at the current situation and possible future of biomanufacturing regulations in Europe, with input from EU #bioeconomy stakeholders, including representatives from the European institution, NGOs, think tanks and private sector companies. ✨ Provide case studies from companies effectively using biomanufacturing. ✨ See what results can be achieved by better combining biomanufacturing with artificial intelligence, and also with the textile industry. ✨ Compare how biomanufacturing is treated other parts of the world. ✨ And, make policy recommendations for improving and increasing biomanufacturing based on best practices and commercial needs.
