We've created a short manual on the use of the Copernicus ECMWF new APIs using both issues from the forum as our own API interface writing for the {ecmwfr} package as inspiration. This will be a living document, updated when new issues and solutions arise. #climatedata #API #rstats #python #curl #endpoints #devops #FAQ https://lnkd.in/eKZHJA5n

Another day, another release. We've added snow depth to the API output of version 1.5 of the {snotelr} R package, querying USDA SNOTEL data. #rstats #opensource #snow #data #api https://lnkd.in/edyxeq5i

We are happy to highlight a new version of the {ecmwfr} R package. This update addresses an issue found by Michel at Atmo Normandie in pulling data from the Copernicus ECMWF atmosphere service. We thank them for making us aware of the issue. Installs are github only for the moment, with the formal CRAN release rolling out next week. Check our blog post for (install) details. #rstats #airquality #modelling #ECMWF #ADS https://lnkd.in/enmcTjK7

BlueGreen Labs reposted this
We are happy to announce a new release of our {ecmwfr} R package, version 2.0.0. This new release anticipates the retirement of the the old API, on September 16th, in favour of the new beta API. The package is mostly backwards compatible with previous code (more on this at the link), although WebAPI support was lost, CEMS support was gained. You can install the latest package from CRAN using: > install.packages("ecmwfr") https://lnkd.in/eMqS69By #rstats #API #opendata #openaccess

We are proud to share our funding of an OSCARS project grant to continue the development of PhenoCam infrastructure together with other consortium partners. This should ensure the long term support of near-surface remote sensing PhenoCam based research in Europe using open science #FAIR practices in all domains including software, hardware and data. https://lnkd.in/eXKNPH4g

Recently, BlueGreen Labs described the impact of the light environment on leaf phenology in the Congo Basin using a bottom-up approach (Kearsley et al. 2024). We found a strong correlation between radiation and leaf phenology. The second, top-down modeling approach (Liu et al. 2024), to which we contributed, incorporated radiation into a land-surface model, improving its accuracy in simulating forest growth. While the improvement was small, it's crucial for accurate modeling of tropical forests, which are highly diverse and complex ecosystems. Combining both this bottom-up and top-down knowledge provides a clear path forward to further improve model representation. https://lnkd.in/eKMfEY9D References: Kearsley et al. (2024). At BlueGreen Labs we try to use electronics sustainably and repair when possible. Today we swapped out the battery of an aging Dell XPS 13 using the iFixit Europe battery replacement kit, and dusted up the fans. Runs as good as new. Repairability shouldn't be hard, and the default. #CircularEconomy #RightToRepair #Sustainability

Finished another successful workshop at the University of Antwerp on how to process near-surface #RemoteSensing images. Students learned how to transform images into time series, from which to extract meaningful #environmental statistics. This knowledge will be integrated into the ICOS - Integrated Carbon Observation System workflows and PhD student experiments.
