Looks like Apple doesn't fall far from the tree...! Very encouraging news as one of the world's fastest-growing retail brands is turning to wood to build greener stores. Check out this story from WoodCentral on how the world’s first Apple store built from mass timber has opened in Miami. The article by Jason Ross describes the affinity that the tech industry is showing towards mass timber: "The push to use timber (over steel and concrete) comes after Wood Central revealed that tech was amongst the fastest-growing consumers of mass timber construction – with Microsoft building the world’s first data centres using cross-laminated timber ceiling and floor sandwich systems." Another example of mass timber going increasingly mainstream -- great to see! #masstimberconstruction #biobasedmaterials #decarbonisation

Important findings released today from our Built by Nature allies at C40 Cities: their latest research reveals that a more sustainable construction sector in cities will generate multiple socio-economic benefits, including the creation of millions of green jobs. The extensive study, supported by Laudes Foundation and the City of Oslo Oslo kommune, draws upon insights from Building and Woodworkers International, and spans seven major cities: Bogotá, London, Madrid, Mexico City, Nairobi, Oslo and Seattle. The global findings illustrate how decarbonisation of the built environment can support a stable and healthy workforce and provide opportunities for greater social equity. Modelling was based on two scenarios from 2023-2050: first, a city’s "business as usual" continuation of carbon-intensive construction; and second, one which projects a shift to what the reports call "clean construction" -- decarbonised, resource-efficient, resilient and socially just. Based on these scenarios, the research projects net positive changes in job numbers and job roles, maps workforce diversity and quality of work, and calculates the investment needed for each. Particulary encouraging is the endorsement of the research findings from the mayors of they cities represented: Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and Co-Chair of C40 Cities; Governing Mayor of Oslo, Eirik Lae Solberg; Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés; and Bruce Harrell, Mayor of Seattle. Find out more below about their perspectives, and access the C40 Cities global policy report and seven city-level policy reports for analyses and evidence of the socioeconomic benefits and challenges of decarbonising the built environment in these major urban centres... Encouraging possibilities of how we can build for the benefit of people and planet, and in harmony with nature. #decarbonisation #cleanconstruction #greentransition #greenjobs

The countdown has begun! It's now less than one week to go until the inaugural #GAEAAwards -- and Built by Nature is a proud finalist. The GAEA Awards, powered by the World Economic Forum, amplifies the collaborative initiatives leading the way on climate and nature action. They will showcase what successful partnerships look like, and in doing so, inspire further collaboration. Effective collaboration is still too rare, which is why the GAEA Awards were established to shine a light on partnerships that create real impact, such as Built by Nature's work to accelerate the transformation of our built environment to one working in harmony with nature -- by radically reducing embodied carbon; safely storing carbon in our buildings for generations; and sequestering carbon by championing forest stewardship and regeneration. On January 23, at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting, the winners of the GAEA Awards will be announced – these have been chosen by an independent panel of experts, including philanthropists, policymakers, business leaders, academics and NGOs. And it’s crucial we remember that a unified approach to climate and nature action, that spans borders, sectors and industries, is no longer optional but essential for progress. We're delighted to be recognised and to be a part of this catalyst for change: https://lnkd.in/eB-_fgu6 #ClimateCollaboration #WEF25 #InspiringCollaboration #PartnershipsForThePlanet
