To get there, the Council is calling for more investment in grids, storage & interconnections at national and EU levels.  With the European Commission’s Action Plan for Affordable Energy now on the table, 2025 will be a decisive year for action. Ensuring secure, clean, and affordable energy for all means deploying Innovative Grid Technologies at a much larger scale and faster pace. Through collaboration with grid operators, our members are boosting capacity, improving efficiency, and enabling greater renewable energy integration.  This week’s spotlight is CTC Global ☀️ In 2021, Elia installed ACCC Advanced Conductors on its 23 km long Avelgem-Avelin 380kV line, a critical connection between TSOs Elia and RTE. The deployment of ACCC Advanced Conductors increased the line capacity from 1.5GW to 3GW, with minimal civil/tower work thanks to Advanced Conductors ability to leverage existing infrastructure. The #AffordableEnergyActionPlan is on the agenda today for the #EnergyCouncil focusing on the short-term and mid-term measures proposed to reduce energy prices. 📈 As part of the Action Plan, the European Commission has committed to accelerating the deployment of #Innovation in the upcoming #GridsPackage. Deploying #InnovativeGridTechnologies can quickly bring down costs for consumers by increasing the amount of capacity available on the grid as well as facilitating the mass uptake of renewables, reducing curtailment that is costing consumers billions of euros per year across Europe. ⚡ In mid-term to long-term, deploying innovative grid technologies can save up to €700 billion in conventional expansion costs up to 2040, while also increasing overall network capacity by 20 – 40%. 💡 It’s great to see #DigitalTwins recognised as an essential tool for grid optimisation! 💡 Well done to ENTSO-E & EU DSO Entity Report on their joint report which highlights the huge potential of #DigitalTwins for enhancing grid operation, as well as pointing out some of key challenges hindering deployment, including:  ✅ Technical and organisational barriers  ✅ Financial constraints, with high costs for technology deployment and limited cost recovery options.  ✅ Regulatory gaps, making it harder for DSOs to justify investments and scale digital solutions Digital twin technologies are an example of #InnovativeGridTechnologies which can optimize the European electricity system to achieve greater resilience, improved efficiency, and enhanced sustainability in the electricity grid. To address this, Reactive Technologies partnered with AEMO to measure real-time inertia in Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM). Using patented GridMetrix® technology, they delivered highly accurate inertia data, independently validated by the University of Melbourne, showing improved accuracy over AEMO’s theoretical calculations. ⚡ Poland is investing big in it’s distribution grid ⚡ Energa-Operator S.A. secured over PLN7,5 billion (€1.8 billion) from the country’s National Recovery Plan to expand the grid and grid capacity. This funding is complemented by investments made by the European Investment Bank (EIB) to bolster its distribution grids capacity. ♻️ The improvement in Poland’s grid will connect approximately 350,000 new electricity consumers and 1,600 public electric vehicle charging stations to the grid. In addition, the investment will be spent on the modernisation of 10,000km of existing power lines, with a key aim of integrating 9GW of renewable energy resources. “Can we look to Poland as an example, a country that is able to tap into existing policy and funding frameworks to direct the flow of billions of euros into distribution alone?” asks Yusuf Latief in Smart Energy International. ⚡ Investment in the British distribution network must double up to 2050⚡ 💶 With electricity demand in Britain set to double by 2050, the current pace of additional investment in the electricity distribution networks must also double. The results come from the National Infrastructure Commission’s latest study, finding the need for £37-50 billion ($47-63 billion) of investment in Britian’s distribution grid between today and 2050.  As more RES becomes available and needs to be connected to the grid, optimizing the distribution grid is essential to faciliate the mass uptake of renewables.
