The U.S. Army has conducted another successful flight test of its Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) Increment 1 on 19 March at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The missile was launched from a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and travelled over the Pacific Ocean to demonstrate its extended-range capabilities. PrSM is the U.S. Army’s next-generation long-range missile, designed to provide greater range and improved precision in targeting. It plays a key role in enhancing long-range precision fire capabilities across joint military operations. Increment 1 of the system will eventually replace the current Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS). With increased lethality and range, the new missile aims to strengthen field artillery formations and support more complex combat missions. Curtiss-Wright Corporation has been awarded significant contracts by Rheinmetall to provide turret drive aiming and stabilisation systems for the Boxer Heavy Weapon Carrier and Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). The contracts support defence modernisation efforts for both the German and Hungarian armed forces, reinforcing Curtiss-Wright’s role as a key supplier of military-grade stabilisation technology. Under the agreements, Curtiss-Wright will deliver its Turret Drive Stabilisation System (TDSS) to Rheinmetall’s Vehicle Systems Division. This technology enhances the precision and accuracy of turret aiming and stabilisation, enabling combat vehicles to effectively engage targets while moving across rugged terrain. The TDSS is designed to maintain stability even under high-speed manoeuvres, ensuring optimal performance in combat scenarios. The Boxer Heavy Weapon Carrier, an advanced armoured fighting vehicle developed by Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland, will benefit from Curtiss-Wright’s TDSS. These vehicles will be integrated into the German Army’s fleet, providing improved firepower and target acquisition capabilities. The Lynx IFV, which is part of Hungary’s military modernisation programme, will also incorporate the TDSS, further enhancing its combat effectiveness. Under the European Defence Fund (EDF), French defence company Thales is coordinating the EISNET (European Interactive Sensor-Based Dynamic Defence Network) consortium. This initiative brings together 23 partners from industry, research centres, and universities across twelve European Union Member States. Launched at the end of January 2025, EISNET was introduced at a high-level meeting attended by 65 representatives from European industry, research institutions, and academia. The project aims to develop common standards, build prototypes, and create demonstration scenarios to enhance Europe’s air and missile defence capabilities. EISNET will establish next-generation real-time network protocols, known as the EISNET Architecture Framework Tool (EAFT). This framework will allow European radars, passive sensors, and command-and-control systems from different countries and suppliers to communicate seamlessly, ensuring a dynamic exchange of data and services. By integrating these systems in a coordinated manner, EISNET seeks to improve the responsiveness, scalability, and resilience of both new and existing Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) systems. The project is designed to address complex modern threats, including high-velocity attacks, saturation strikes, and stealth capabilities. The construction of assembly and maintenance facilities for F-35 fighter jet engines in Linnavuori, Nokia, is progressing on schedule. A milestone was reached on 14 March with a topping-out ceremony marking the completion of the building's structural phase. This new facility is part of Finland’s industrial cooperation within the F-35 fighter programme. Expected to be completed in autumn 2025, the site will enhance Finland’s ability to maintain and service its future fleet of F-35 multi-role fighters. Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen emphasised that developing domestic maintenance capabilities will strengthen Finland’s military readiness. Having F135 engine maintenance in Finland ensures that the Air Force’s F-35 engines remain operational under all conditions. The Defence Properties Agency is overseeing the construction, and the facilities will be operated by Patria, Finland’s strategic defence partner. Patria has extensive experience maintaining and repairing various defence system engines and components at its Linnavuori site. The Royal Netherlands Navy (Koninklijke Marine) has successfully fired a Tomahawk cruise missile for the first time from a naval platform. The test, conducted by the air defence and command frigate Zr.Ms. De Ruyter, took place off the coast of Norfolk, USA, on 11 March 2025, under the supervision of the U.S. Navy and a joint project team from the Dutch Ministry of Defence. This historic test was designed to gather essential data to support the integration of Tomahawk missiles into the Dutch fleet. The exercise aimed to assess the warship’s readiness and provide operational insights for the future deployment of the RTX Tomahawk Block V cruise missile. The Tomahawk long-range cruise missile, with a range exceeding 1,000 kilometres, will enhance the Dutch Navy’s precision strike capabilities. Once fully operational, the missile will enable the engagement of strategic land-based targets, such as command centres, air defence systems, and enemy units, directly from Dutch warships.
