Our teams have now started constructing a temporary 150 kV backup line that will reinforce security of supply in Mechelen. Working alongside the city authorities and local landowners, our teams began planning the construction of this backup line after the storm that hit the region on 9 July. A 150 kV line that had been supplying the area with electricity was severely damaged by the storm, meaning that the power supplied to Mechelen has since been transported by two high-voltage lines that have lower voltage levels (70 kV). Our teams are working hard to provide residents in the local area with this 150 kV backup line, which will have 5 pylons, will reinforce security of supply and will protect the grid against further possible incidents. We’d like to extend a big thanks to all of our staff on the ground who are making sure that residents and local businesses stay safe throughout the work - including Harmen Geers, Sam Mertens, Dries D'hondt, Glenn Christiaens, Devreese Bart, Stefan Anseau, Brecht Sabbe, Luc Van Dunnegem, Jonathan Dewaele, Laurence De Muyter and Rutger Smeets. #guardiansofthegrid #partnerships #electricitygrid #electricity #storm

As highlighted during our analyst and investor call this morning, our investments during the first half of this year amounted to a record €1,735.9 million. This was mainly driven by our grid expansion projects, offshore development projects, and technological advancements. Our net profit Elia Group share totalled €181.6 million as a result of strong performance across all segments. Our full-year guidance has been revised upwards, primarily due to an upwards revision in Germany and Nemo Link. Marleen Vanhecke took us through the event and was joined in the studio by Catherine Vandenborre, Marco Nix, Yannick Dekoninck and Stéphanie Luyten. Stefan Kapferer, Frederic Dunon, Peter Michiels, Sylvia Borcherding and Harald van Outryve d'Ydewalle also provided additional updates about the Group’s activities. Round 2 of our 2024 Open Innovation Challenge has officially begun. Out of almost 100 applicants, 11 creative and innovative teams have made it through to compete for this year’s prize!   Launched in April, the 2024 OIC is focused on CAPEX delivery. This means we’re on the lookout for solutions related to the areas of planning and design, project management, procurement and supply chains, and onsite/offsite execution.   By the end of round 1, we and our scouting partner Ambivation had received many great proposals from a range of different start-ups. 11 of these stood out and have made it through to round 2 of the challenge. Congratulations to Avaly, Continuum Industries, EHAB, Neanex (via Fundamend), Infraspace, KEY360 Inc., ORIS Materials Intelligence, Mithra-Ai Solutions, nPlan, RIB Software and Transcend – and good luck!   The teams will spend the next few months refining their proposals alongside our staff, including Didier Chim, Davy De Winter, Isabelle Hendrickx, Joachim Goovaerts, Julien Madani, Nathan Vervaeke, Philipp Hohrath, Philipp von Normann, Sandra Eickhoff-Kehr, Simon Deplace and Tom Leemans.   The final of this year’s challenge will be held on 6 November - find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eys7xrXr   #eliagroupinnovation #innovation #electricitygrid #infrastructure #infrastructureproject #renewables #decarbonisation #supplychain #projectmanagement #design #netzero #challenge #competition #OIC

We are excited to announce that we are investing €12.5 million in a venture capital fund that will be used to support European start-ups that are developing digital technologies and services.   SET Fund IV is a €200 million international venture capital fund that is managed by SET Ventures. As a leader in the field of digital energy innovation, SET Ventures actively monitors European start-ups which focus on areas such as distributed energy systems, flexibility, energy efficiency and electric vehicle charging. SET Fund IV is supporting growth companies that have already tested out their solutions and are looking to scale them up.   It’s the first time that we at Elia Group are participating in a venture capital fund. By participating in SET Fund IV, we are aiming to identify new innovations and companies that will help to accelerate the digitalisation of the electricity system and unlock more flexibility from across it.   Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/evAA3HYt #digitalisation #digital #innovation #electricitygrid #decarbonisation #flexibility #electricity #renewables #energy

👷♀️👷♂️ Just over a week after a powerful storm crossed Belgium, our teams have now almost finished removing all of the high-voltage lines that had been knocked over in the Mechelen area, including those that fell onto private properties and farmland. All roads and rail lines that were affected by the work have now been reopened.   🚧 From tomorrow onwards, our teams will begin to clear the 9 high-voltage pylons that the storm toppled over, including two which are a particular priority: one which fell onto a house in Kouterweg, and another which fell near the sports hall along Dorpstraat. This work will take at least three weeks to complete.   💡 From next Tuesday onwards, our teams will start building an emergency high-voltage line that will strengthen the local network and protect it against further possible incidents. We have been working closely with the city authorities and Fluvius, the distribution system operator, on this since last week.   🤝 We’d like to extend a big thanks to our teams and partners who continue to work hard in Mechelen and are prioritising the safety and wellbeing of local residents and businesses.   #guardiansofthegrid #electricitygrid #electricity #storm

👏It’s been a long – and successful – day for our teams, who have now removed the high-voltage lines that had fallen on about 10 houses after Tuesday's storm. This means that the residents of the Vinkstraat neighbourhood whose houses had been damaged can move back into their homes this evening🏡🙏. The fire services and local distribution system operator, Fluvius, will accompany each resident home, ensuring that their houses are habitable👨🚒.   👷♀️👷♂️Our teams carried out some excellent preparatory work throughout the week, meaning that dismantling the high-voltage lines that had been toppled over by the storm went more smoothly than planned. The fallen lines were under a lot of tractive force, so the clean-up work had to be carried out very carefully.   📢The residents of Mechelen responded to our call to reduce their use of electricity as our teams carried out the work this weekend – and this helped to make the work a success. On a normal Saturday, locals use an average of around 50 MW of electricity. Today, the average consumption level was around 20 MW: less than half the usual level. This is unprecedented 📉⚡. We want to thank Mayor Bart Somers, the residents of Mechelen, and local companies who supported our work today👏. By ensuring that the electricity grid was not overloaded, our work was carried out in a safe environment, and the power supply to the area was not compromised.   💪💪After a busy week, most of Elia's teams will take a day off tomorrow. Some of our staff will continue the clean-up work. From Monday onwards, our teams will begin to remove the remaining high-voltage lines and fallen pylons. A new phase, focused on strengthening the area’s security of supply, will then begin💡.   #guardiansofthegrid #electricitygrid #electricity #storm #partnerships   👉Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eytavmk6

🎥In the video below, Lotte Van der Stockt, Simon Stul, Frederic Dunon and David Zenner explain how our teams in Belgium have been addressing the damage caused by Tuesday’s storm in the area of Mechelen.   👷♀️Keeping everyone safe was their priority as they took stock of the situation, prioritised the work that needed to be done, kept the local community informed, and began dismantling and repairing our infrastructure.   🙏Our thoughts are with the local community and our onsite staff this weekend as they work hard to make sure residents can safely make it back to their homes whilst keeping the grid stable💪. 📢Announcement – aftermath of the storm: Elia and distribution grid operator Fluvius are calling on residents in Mechelen to limit their use of electricity this weekend⚡📉. 🚧As part of the repair work that is being carried out in Mechelen, one of the two 70kV high-voltage lines which supply the area with electricity will be temporarily switched off. This line crosses the 150 kV line that was destroyed during the storm on Tuesday🌬. 📣So as not to overload the remaining 70 kV line, Elia is calling on local residents to limit their electricity consumption between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. This will ensure that everyone – residents, local businesses, the municipal authorities and our staff on the ground – remain safe throughout the repair work 💪. 👉To find out more, read the press release here https://lnkd.in/eh78qkNN

📢Update – aftermath of the storm in Mechelen: 🏡Vinkstraat residents displaced by the storm damage will be able to return to their homes by Monday; 🚧Local traffic in the area will be diverted as work is undertaken over the next few days; 💡Elia is also focusing on optimising security of supply in the area. 👷♂️Our teams have now secured the sites in Leest that were affected by the storm on Tuesday. From tomorrow onwards, they will begin to remove the high-voltage lines that fell onto houses in the Vinkstraat neighbourhood, meaning that the residents from this district who have been temporarily displaced will be able to move back into their homes by Monday evening. Elia will then address the damage caused in the area that stretches between the sports hall (Dorpsstraat) and the railway line (Moststraat). 🤝In close cooperation with Fluvius, the local distribution system operator, we have been able to ensure that the local area continues to be supplied with power despite the storm and its damage. At the same time, our teams are preparing to construct 5 temporary pylons; this new emergency line, which we are aiming to construct from 23 July onwards, should be operational by mid-August and will reinforce the local grid to protect it against any other potential incidents. 👮♀️We are working closely with the police and local authority to ensure that the work is undertaken in the safest way possible. Residents will be asked to remain indoors whilst the high-voltage lines are removed, and traffic in the area will be diverted. ☎Our onsite teams are, of course, available to answer questions from residents or business owners in Mechelen. An emergency freephone line has also been set up: 0800 11 089. 💪With thanks to our teams, the local authority, the police and Fluvius for all their hard work so far. We would also like to extend our thanks to local residents for their patience and support, and look forward to helping the people affected back into their homes. 👉Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/e-JCwUFP #guardiansofthegrid #electricitygrid #grid #partnerships #storm
