  • The use of AI tools in academic research is a very hot topic at the moment and the sector is debating and acting swiftly to address and set standards for researching with AI tools. Undertaking research into coaching mentoring and supervision, we too need to be aware of the benefits and challenges of using AI as a tool in research. There is no simple answer and we should have an open debate about the benefits and dangers of using AI tools in our research. What are your views and experiences? What are your personal guidelines and ethical considerations? Share your thoughts here!

EMCC Global is excited to establish a Regulation Centre for Excellence (CfE), under the leadership of Alberto Javier Arroyo. This initiative underscores our commitment to advancing the coaching, mentoring, and supervision professions through rigorous standards and ethical practices. 🌞About the Regulation Centre for Excellence The Regulation CfE was established to enhance the professionalisation of coaching and mentoring by promoting self-regulation and integrating seamlessly with other EMCC initiatives. Our aim is to create a cohesive framework that aligns with EMCC Global's accreditation processes and ethical guidelines, contributing to the overall mosaic of the EMCC mission. 🌞Key objectives 👉Review and promote The Professional Charter for Coaching and Mentoring: Initiate a thorough review of the Charter, advocating for its widespread adoption across various countries. 👉Establish best practices framework: Create a robust framework of best practices for internal regulation, facilitating adoption by different EMCC countries and regions to maintain consistency and high standards. 👉Redefine the complaints procedure: Develop a comprehensive second version of the Complaints Procedure to ensure clarity and fairness in addressing ethical concerns. 🌞Our team Alberto is supported by a dedicated and experienced team. That team contributed to the definition of the current version of The Professional Charter for Coaching and Mentoring in 2022. 👉Michel Moral, MSc, PhD 👉Toni Smerdon Together, we aim to develop frameworks for both self-regulation and formal regulation in coaching, mentoring, and supervision practices, encompassing emerging fields such as team and group coaching. 🌞Regulation and self-regulation are vital for: 👉Client protection: Safeguarding clients from unethical or ineffective practices. 👉Credibility enhancement: Boosting the credibility of professionals within the industry. 👉Professional development: Encouraging continuous learning and adherence to high standards. The Professional Charter for Coaching and Mentoring, co-signed by EMCC Global and other leading organisations, serves as a benchmark for ethics and good practice, forming the basis for self-regulation in our profession. https://vist.ly/3mxa9cx 🌞To meet the team or get involved, email Alberto at alberto.arroyo@emccglobal.org #EMCCGlobal #EMCCTeamCoaching #EMCCTeamCoach #TeamCoach #CoachingCompetencies #Coaching #ProfessionalDevelopment #ThoughtLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Teamwork #CoachingExcellence #EMCC #Coach #Team

  • A psychologist with nearly 30 years’ experience has been recognised with an EMCC Global Individual Accreditation (EIA) at Master Practitioner level. Gerard Dekkers is the founder of the Netherlands-based MentesMe - a provider of customised mentoring within organisations - his curiosity about human development saw him specialise in methodologies such as EMDR, EFT, Heart Coherence, and Internal Family Systems. He created his own cognitive activation method, the MentesMe iGrow method, which forms the basis of his EMCC Global Quality Award (EQA) accredited Foundation and Practitioner training programmes. Altogether, his work has significantly contributed to the profession – a key requirement for Master Practitioner level. Gerard writes: “As I refined and expanded my methodologies, I wanted to benchmark them against the highest global standards. EMCC Global was the only organisation that truly aligned with my vision and commitment to excellence. “The journey toward Master Practitioner accreditation and our EQA accreditation has been a profoundly enriching experience, and I look forward to actively contributing to the EMCC Global community." Let’s all be Pracademics Being an evidence-based practitioner in an evidence-based profession is about how we grow in capability and in the value we add. Sharing your research is integral to being a pracademic – the topic of today’s Research Monday post. Since I introduced the term pracademic a decade ago, it has become an accepted part of the research vocabulary in coaching and mentoring. It captures two complementary concepts: 🍎 The academic, who engages in coaching practice with their own clients. 🍎 The coaching practitioner, who enriches their practice by carrying out or participating in relevant research. Implicit for both is that they share their learning through publications, conference papers or other media. A major benefit for the academics is being able to ground their research and the conclusions they extract from it in their own experience. As a result, the work of these pracademics usually passes the “So what?” test. It has immediate relevance to the work of coaches and mentors generally — and this gives them credibility when engaging with coaching audiences. Among benefits for coaches are that they can constantly test assumptions about the efficacy of what they do. At one level, they can gather data from their own practice, compare this with the available literature and experiment with alternate approaches. For example, attempting to limit the number of questions they ask in a coaching session. At another level, they can use their clients to conduct surveys that investigate a topic that attracts their interest. For example, how clients experience imposter syndrome. Both pracademic groups can also work together in multiple ways. For example, coaches and mentors (and of course supervisors) can suggest themes that academics can design research around. They can also participate in studies led by academics. The expectation that EMCC members will be pracademics increases at each level from Practitioner, through Senior Practitioner to Master Practitioner. All my Senior Practitioner courses require participants to initiate a research project, for example. What has your research told you recently? What are your research ideas? Post them below 👇👇👇 Prof. David Clutterbuck and Dr Lise Lewis are our special advisers in research and members of EMCC Global’s Research Committee. At the Continuous Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) Centre for Excellence, our mission is to anticipate, challenge, and uphold best practices in the ongoing development of coaches, mentors, and supervisors. Building on the foundational work led by Marialexia Margariti, former Vice President of Quality, we have defined the EMCC Global philosophy and principles for CPD, resulting in the 2017 e-book guide (download here: EMCC Global CPD Guide) https://vist.ly/3mwpa5f CPD encompasses activities that maintain, develop, or increase knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes. It goes beyond knowledge acquisition to include the relational and personal dimensions of practitioners alongside their professional expertise. To reflect this, we have added the essential "Personal," transforming CPD into CPPD and bringing the holistic perspective of body, heart, mind and spirit. As the world evolves, so must our learning practices, addressing the "Anyone, Anywhere, Anyhow, Anytime" aspects. These 4 As are detailed in our roadmap (download here: EMCC Global CPD Roadmap). Our international team, led by Nadine Hemmer, is focusing on three priorities: 1️⃣ Rethinking the EMCC Global Vision for the Ongoing Development of Practitioners to be: 🍎 Evidence-based 🍎 Adaptive to our evolving world (AI, learning technologies, culture) and the different career stages of practitioners 🍎 Inclusive, reflecting EMCC Global values and exploring beyond the Western perspective of on-going learning This vision will be summarised in a white paper and communicated as a short statement. 2️⃣ Supporting Our Members to Enhance the Quality and the depth of their Learning. Reflective practice is at the heart of our learning journey. The ability to elaborate and relate in complex and nuanced ways, navigate the unknown with wisdom, and continuously reflect on experiences ensures growth in both skills and personal development. We are creating spaces for reflection and reflexivity and enhancing learning in EMCC events and conferences. With expert support from David Drake, we are drafting a process/document based on his five maturities model to support our members. This will also ensure that we evolve in our profession and as an organisation. 3️⃣ Streamlining Learning Processes and Communication We are working with affiliated countries and other parts of EMCC Global to align our processes, ideas, and actions, making the best use of the energy EMCC volunteers bring to development activities. 🌍 We are a diverse international team aspiring to explore beyond what we know. Our EMCC Global Five Day Challengers are currently four days into their sprint towards accreditation. Join us in wishing them well on their journey. The Five Day Challenge (5DC) is a Get It Done week, where our volunteer facilitators lead small groups of coaches and mentors who need some help in completing their application for EMCC Global Individual Accreditation (EIA) at Foundation, Practitioner and Senior Practitioner level. Discussions so far have included looking at personal statements, the types of clients serviced by the coaches and mentors, a look into CPPD, ethics and supervision. We have four different language groups this time - English, French, Greek and Polish - and it has been lovely to hear the different languages and perspectives as we come together as an international family. Our next EMCC Global 5DC runs in June 2025, and we also have one in September 2025. For details see www.emccglobal.org/5dc The 5DC is not a training course, or an information session – this is for coaches and mentors who have the education and experience needed for accreditation and just need some help applying. We remain thankful for our volunteer facilitators who are happy to help you in the process.
