About us
The EOSC Association is the legal entity established to govern the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). It was formed on 29th July 2020 with four founding members and has since grown to over 200 Members and Observers. The Association membership is jointly responsible for delivering the objectives agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the European Union and EOSC Association to form the official Partnership. The EOSC ecosystem is being co-created in a series of funded projects and initiatives from Member States and Associated Countries. The EOSC Association plays an important role in helping to coordinate and steer these investments via its Task Forces and other governance structures.

Call for Candidates for four #Directors https://lnkd.in/dn7Azgiv The call for #candidates for four EOSC-A Board of Director positions has been launched for the 2024 elections, which will take place during the 9th General Assembly of the #EOSC Association. The terms of three EOSC-A Directors are concluding (with one of these eligible to stand for re-election), and a fourth vacancy has arisen prematurely due to the December 2023 passing of Director Sarah Jones. Sarah’s position will initially be filled on a one-year interim basis. Members interested in potentially serving on the Board for either four years (one + three) or six years (three + three) are encouraged to apply for both the three-year and one-year term options. Currently there is a need for Directors with specific skills, including #political insight, #policy expertise, and relevant #technological know-how, which would best serve to continue the ongoing work of the Board. The full requirements and a description of the role of EOSC-A Directors can be found here: https://lnkd.in/d6vDXwup You can download the call text at this link: https://lnkd.in/dNKq-AFR

🚀 Exploring France's Pioneering Role in Open Science: Insights from Laurent Romary at Inria In a recent interview, Laurent Romary, Director for Scientific Information and Culture at Inria, discussed France's enduring commitment to Open Science. Here are some key takeaways: 📢 Inria's Role: As the French Mandated Organisation within the EOSC Association, Inria is at the forefront of national and European Open Science initiatives. Key contributions include the development of the @HAL repository and Software Heritage, both essential for preserving and disseminating research outputs. Inria is also involved in several infrastructure activities, such as general OS infrastructures and technical infrastructures like SLICES-RI. 🌱 National Infrastructures: Romary emphasises the critical role of national infrastructures, such as HAL (co-developed with CNRS and INRAE) and Recherche Data Gouv, Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, for an ecosystem that supports research publications, data, and software and ensures accessibility and collaboration across institutions. 🚧 Preparing for EOSC Federation: Inria is actively promoting the concept of national infrastructures as EOSC Nodes, developed based on content and services offered to the scientific community rather than administrative constraints. 🌟 Showcasing French Success Stories: Romary highlighted several impactful French initiatives such as Episciences, Peer Community In, centre Mersenne, and Ateliers de la Donnée. ⚠️ Challenges Ahead: Romary identified key challenges, such as the need for long-term and stable funding mechanisms at national and European levels. 🔍Looking to the Future: Romary envisions a post-2027 EOSC that is more integrated and impactful, balancing national and European interests and ensuring that Open Science remains a cornerstone of research practices. He calls for stronger roles for infrastructures like DARIAH ERIC and SSHOC - Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud, which actively provide services to researchers, helping to create a more cohesive Open Science environment across Europe.
