About us

EUNIC - European Union National Institutes for Culture is Europe’s network of national cultural institutes, with 38 members from all EU member states and offices in over 100 countries. EUNIC members work in the arts, languages, youth, education, science, society, intercultural dialogue and development. At a local level, EUNIC members join together in 132 clusters - in cities, regions, and countries - to collaborate on common projects and programmes and to promote the role of culture in the EU’s internal and external relations. 🌐 The integration of AI technology has profoundly transformed multiple dimensions of social life on a global scale. Specifically, in the realm of international cultural relations (ICR), it is evident that the widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence significantly alters the dynamics, introducing new complexities and opportunities. However, there is also a reciprocal impact: ICR can shape the evolution and underlying rationales of AI and generative AI. Thus, beyond merely monitoring the proper use of AI tools and moderating the impact of third-party tech actors, participants in ICR can play a pivotal role in guiding the development of AI technologies and their regulation. What opportunities and risks do AI technologies pose for ICR? What narratives and tensions are at play among stakeholders in the intersection of AI and culture? How to establish intersectoral collaboration between the tech world and the cultural sector? What role can ICR actors play in making the development of AI systems more participatory among different stakeholders? In light of the upcoming UN Summit of the Future in September this research gives an introduction into the topic of AI and its possible geopolitical, cultural and societal impacts. Thus the results may feed into the one of the outcomes of the Summit the Global Digital Compact on science, technology and innovation and digital cooperation to support an open, free and secure digital future. This event will discuss the central findings of the ifa study “Artificial Intelligence in International Cultural Relations” with Amy Sample Ward(they/them), CEO of NTEN Martin Rauchbauer former Austria’s Tech Ambassador to Silicon Valley, Founder & Co-Director, Tech Diplomacy Network Octavio Kulesz is a philosopher, digital publisher, director of Teseo, expert of ifa’s Research Programme “Culture and Foreign Policy“ Moderated by Luba Elliott  curator, producer and researcher, specialising in AI in the creative industries Join the discussion on 9 July from 6pm to 7pm (CET) on Zoom. • #Throwback to the EUNIC Climate Culture(s) Creative Lab in Berlin! 💚 🌱 Last year in June, as part of the Goethe-Institut's presidency of EUNIC, the #CCCLab brought to life new connections and collaboration among EUNIC members on environment, #climate, and #culture and to support emerging leadership on these topics. The programme gathered 31 representatives from 19 EUNIC member organizations from both headquarters in Europe and branches around the world. For the lab, EUNIC and Goethe-Institut partnered up with two expert partners to facilitate the week, namely Julie's Bicycle and Social Impact. Watch the aftermovie for an impression of the week in Berlin! https://lnkd.in/eNXFgAEk

  • 🔵 Culture was on the agenda for the first time at Europe's largest conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine - the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin. As preparation the week before UNESCO and the government of Lithuania gathered 200 colleagues, and 30 National Delegations committed to the support of the recovery of Ukraine cultural sectors.   Recovery and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine must include conversations on the role of culture. This includes the protection of #CulturalHeritage as well as the multifaceted role the cultural sectors of Ukraine are playing in the resilience of the nation.   In her capacity as #EUNIC President, Camilla Mordhorst (CEO of Danish Cultural Institute) joined the conference as moderator and to underline the crucial role of culture for resilience and recovery.    The Ukraine Recovery Conference is an annual event that since 2017 has brought together European leaders to discuss and plan how the world can best support Ukraine's fight for freedom. The fact that culture is now a focus for this conference is an important step in recognising that culture is part of a nation's DNA and resilience that must be defended during the crisis as well as in post war recovery.   Thank you to the panel:   Katja Keul Minister of State Federal Foreign Office, Germany, Anastasia Bondar, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Simonas Kairys, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Krista Pikkat, Director of the Culture and Emergencies Entity at the UNESCO Culture sector, Claudia Roth, Minster of State for Culture and the Media, Germany, Kateryna Kulai, Acting Director of Odesa National Fine Arts Museum, Ukraine and Edmondo Cirielli, Deputy Foreign Minister, Italy.   📷 Photothek   Read more about the conference, here: https://lnkd.in/eeqAZ243 #UkraineRecoveryConference #CulturalRelations
