📣 Don't forget to register for our P2X event on 6 November! 📣 Ultimately, in an era of abundant and ultra-cheap renewable electricity, P2X will be common practice, but when will that time come? The Impact Assessment accompanying the European Commission’s Communication on the 2040 climate target/climate neutrality by 2050 points to a need to increase capacity for P2X technologies to meet energy targets. Our workshop is a mix of panel discussions and presentations which will examine the feasibility of P2X deployment scenarios and the R&D challenges that wind, PV, grids and hydrogen will need to address to make these ambitious plans a reality. Topics to be covered include: - The feasibility and future of P2X in the context of a push today towards greater direct use of electricity - How suppliers of equipment for P2X are reacting to the climate targets and 2040 scenarios - How hydrogen will be used for P2X, particularly in e-fuels - The biggest technical challenges facing designers of the future EU electricity system Agenda and registration information are here: https://lnkd.in/edDZ_dYF

A group of 47 businesses, investors and civil society organisations, including Uber, Danone, PepsiCo and T&E, are calling for a major public investment strategy to finance the EU’s green transition. The good news is that Ursula von der Leyen has already said the EU needs an 'Investment Commission' — now it’s time to deliver. At T&E, we’re pushing for a €1 trillion investment plan focused on a green industrial fund for a just and social transition. And we’re not alone. NGOs and trade unions are likewise demanding a NextGenerationEU 2.0, driven by an EU investment strategy that channels funds to growing investment gaps. To finance crucial investments, ETS revenue is a promising source. Ahead of yesterday’s ECOFIN meeting, 16 civil society organisations, cleantech innovators, investors, industry associations, and researchers urged finance ministers and Wopke Hoekstra to use ETS revenues for climate action, cleantech deployment and industrial decarbonisation. Upcoming Commissioner hearings are a critical opportunity to further advocate for increased EU investments in sustainability for the next mandate. The European Commission should deliver ambitious proposals in its first 100 days on: 1️⃣ The announced EU Competitiveness Fund 2️⃣ The Future EU budget 3️⃣ A NGEU 2.0 Read the letter from businesses, investors and civil society calling for an EU investment plan that delivers our climate objectives and a resilient future for Europe ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-ZJVd5S #SustainableFinance #ClimateInvestment

The new Academic Year of the EUREC Masters kicked-off last week in Brussels, with 3 successful events! It was great meeting the new batch of renewables enthusiasts: a nice group of motivated students who could meet fellows from other universities, engage with professors from their specialisation universities abroad and start thinking of their future careers in the RE sector. The following day, the EUREC Alumni Network organised a summit in Brussels, where former students and external speakers delivered inspiring speeches, worked together on case studies and discussed hot topics on the renewable energy transition. Warm thanks to the organisers (Hanne Macken, Prajakta R., Phillip Peters), speakers (Cornillie Jan, Michel Verschuere, Anirudh Bhoopalam, Beau Broen, Felix Jung, Kashish Shah, Aakash Sharma, Marie Angot, Ekaterine Gogoberishvili, Thuthukile Mbanjwa-Sibiya) and to WindEurope and 3E sponsoring the drinks after the event! A special thanks goes to professors at the partnering universities of the EUREC programmes who met in Brussels the day before the events for a strategic workshop (George Caralis, Andrea Michiorri, Quentin Falcoz, Corina Vogt, Ian F., Jan Bekkering, Paz Comech Moreno, Martin Knipper, Tim Vandendriessche, Anke de Poorte). Our Masters produce top-notch graduates thanks to your involvement and constant will to improve!

How can #EUETS revenues be spent effectively to reach climate objectives while boosting competitiveness? 📣 A coalition of civil society organisations, cleantech innovators, investors, industry associations and researchers calls for ETS revenues to be spent in a more efficient way, to keep the EU on track with #greendeal objectives and support the development of key clean technologies and solutions. To ensure effective spending of EU ETS revenues, we call on the Ministries of finance and European Commission to consider the following recommendations: 1️⃣ Allocate all ETS revenues to climate-action related measures. Revenues allocated to decarbonisation projects should prioritise the development of a competitive clean industry, as well as the most impactful and strategic clean technologies and solutions. 2️⃣ Spend 25% of ETS revenues to scale up strategic clean technologies and solutions, instead of spending them on indirect carbon cost compensations. 3️⃣ Ensure transparent reporting of ETS revenues by Member States, with funds clearly earmarked for specific climate projects to allow scrutiny by civil society and evaluation by the European Commission. 🔗 Read the letter here: https://lnkd.in/dwg_wub Airborne Wind Europe Carbon Gap Solar Impulse Foundation Clean Air Task Force Climate Strategy & Partners Climeworks Tech for Net Zero ECCO think tank ECOS EnergyTag EUREC - The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres Transport & Environment (T&E) Ocean Energy Europe I4CE - Institut de l'économie pour le climat / Institute for Climate Economics Jacques Delors Centre #EUGreenDeal #climateation #ETSFunds #EUClimate #climateactionnow
