Our new #EVision report is out: learn how electric vehicles can provide flexibility to the electricity grid and save EV drivers money 👉 https://bit.ly/4hbOWdR 💡 By contributing to the grid's flexibility thanks to smart and bidirectional charging technologies, our joint report with EY shows that EV drivers could save €450-€2,900 every year! How would it be possible? Through 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴, EV batteries can store excess electricity and with 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲-𝘁𝗼-𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗱 (#V2G) technologies, they can sell it back to the grid at times of peak demand, helping balance the power grid, reduce congestion and integrate variable renewables. We estimate that batteries could provide around 𝟭𝟭𝟰 𝗧𝗪𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬 – enough to power 30 million homes every year. This is equal to 4% of Europe’s projected annual power demand! A win-win for both consumers and distribution system operators: ▪️ The upfront cost of an EV might seem high, but by providing flexibility, consumers could benefit from much lower running costs, bringing the total cost of EV ownership below that of conventional cars. ▪️ Meanwhile, together with other flexibility solutions, EVs could contribute to save around €4 billion annually in grid investments from DSOs. “Our study shows EVs can help drivers make money while stabilising the power system, but customers need choice in the market and clear incentives to act.”– Kristian Ruby. How is e-mobility connected to #energysecurity? Listen to this 🎙Redefining Energy podcast episode to find out 👇 Kristian Ruby sat down with Laurent Segalen to talk about his recent visit to DTEK's power plant in Ukraine, where engineers are bravely working through air raids every day to keep the lights on. This happened just a few weeks before the launch of our new flagship study "Redefining Energy Security in the Age of Electricity" where, among other things, we highlighted the crucial role of flexibility in providing a secure and constant flow of power. And that's where electric vehicles come in. In our recently launched #EVision report, we showed how Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging technology can turn EVs into a flexible asset for the grid, with benefits for DSOs, considerable savings for consumers, and enhanced #energysecurity for society. The 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 (#CBAM) is a powerful tool to encourage third countries to cut carbon emissions while protecting local industries against cheaper carbon-intensive imports. Nevertheless, policymakers still need to address some issues 👉 https://lnkd.in/erHV7nKj The Omnibus Simplification Package brings some improvements. However, major issues still need to be fixed in upcoming CBAM and Emission Trading System (ETS) developments. 📢 Before CBAM fully applies to all electricity imports on 1 January 2026, we call on the European Commission to: - Link the EU ETS and UK ETS before #COP30 and encourage the development of similar emissions trading systems with linking in mind. - Revise the formulas for calculating the CO2 emissions factor and default values, as well as the criteria for reporting actual emissions of electricity imports. - Include a sector-specific de minimis threshold for small electricity importers, too. Learn more about the reasons behind these asks in our paper 👇

Ahead of today's Energy Council, we have sent a letter to Europe's Energy Ministers to share our views on two critical points in the agenda 👇 https://lnkd.in/eZKpDAMd ⚡ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: we welcome the European Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal's emphasis on electrification, simplification and demand stimulus. Electrification is the surest way to shore up #energysecurity at home and the most competitive carbon reduction pathway for most consumers. It is also the surest way to put our vast clean energy potential to good use. And with our unmatched internal market, we can bring the best of all Member States’ energy mixes together and strengthen our energy security position in unity. ⚡ 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: we welcome the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union’s prioritisation of the issue. We share many of the convictions detailed in their discussion paper on the EU’s energy security architecture and cover many of the topics in detail in our latest study: https://bit.ly/4hVisVW We need a more holistic view of and planning of the energy system, and Member States should discuss how to better plan to meet their system flexibility needs. The key remains in unity - we need approaches that work for all Member States 🤝 Leo Birnbaum | Kristian Ruby | #energy #energytransition #electrification #decarbonisation #competitiveness #industry #industrialcompetitiveness

This week we were in Strasbourg to deliver an important message: #eelectrification is the key to energy security, decarbonisation and European competitiveness ⚡ Our delegation led by Kristian Ruby, together with Ioana Petcu and Zsuzsa Cseko joined the Members of the European Parliament for the Strasbourg Plenary, where debates were held on the Simplification Package and the Clean Industrial Deal. They had the opportunity to exchange with representatives of the ITRE and INTA Committee from the main political groups and present: ▪️ Our latest study on #energysecurity: https://bit.ly/4hVisVW ▪️ Views on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (#CBAM) ▪️ How to ensure healthy competition and open trade to meet Europe’s energy and climate targets: https://lnkd.in/eJaK7xHp ▪️ The simplification package ▪️ Electrification in delivering on the Clean Industrial Deal: https://lnkd.in/eTxUnSyN We were also able to discuss our the own-initiative (INI) report on grids with the rapporteur within the ITRE Committee, MEP Anna Stürgkh (Renew Europe). We highly support that the INI is clear that electrification is the path forward for decarbonisation and energy sovereignty, thus calling for implementation and network investments. It also states that the first-come-first-serve principle cannot tackle the current amount of connection requests and calls for its elimination to speed up network connection and permit granting. Overall, we were pleased to see that support for the green transition remains strong.
