Zinc plays a critical role in powering the energy transition, IZA’s European Affairs Director Howard Winbow told De Tijd in a recent feature article. Howard explained how zinc protects the steel in infrastructure, such as solar and wind farms, from corrosion and ensures longevity. Zinc also powers the batteries needed for energy storage. And as a carrier metal, zinc ensures a supply of critical materials like gallium, germanium, and indium. The article also features comments from Kamila Slupek, Sustainability Director at Eurometaux (European Metals Association). • We are excited to announce the re-election of Evangelos Mytilineos, Chairman and CEO at Metlen Energy & Metals, as President of Eurometaux for another two years: https://lnkd.in/dgpjNqTJ   As we navigate significant challenges and opportunities, our focus now turns to revamping Europe's industrial competitiveness and ensuring that the green and digital transitions go hand in hand with this priority. Under Mr. Mytilineos’ leadership, we’ve made strides in shaping the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act, essential for our strategic autonomy and bringing the metals industry back to the forefront of EU policy. In the coming years, we’ll collaborate with policymakers to design and implement a Clean Industrial Deal, to secure globally competitive and decarbonized energy supply and address key legislative reforms to deliver growth for Europe. Together, we’re committed to a competitive and sustainable future for Europe’s metals industry! 💪

  • 🗨 The International #ewasteday is now over, but let’s keep the conversation alive! Today, we’re thrilled to share insights from our Sustainability Director, Kamila Slupek, on the benefits of recycling e-waste. To truly harness the potential of our discarded electronics, we need to focus on three essential steps: 1️⃣ Ease access to waste that contains metals – better collection 2️⃣ Ensure proper sorting and treatment 3️⃣ Guarantee that materials are recycled in state-of-the-art facilities – maximum recovery By following these steps, we will not only enhance Europe’s self-sufficiency but also better protect our workers👷 and our planet 🌍

  • 📢 Today, on International E-waste Day and in collaboration with WEEE Forum, we're shining a light on the e-waste we've collected from our office, devices that often end up forgotten but contain valuable materials that can be recycled multiple times without losing their properties.   Let’s commit to responsible e-waste disposal 🚮 and recycling ♻️. Together, we can recover critical raw materials and strengthen our strategic autonomy. Remember, your old devices📱can make a difference!   Join us in taking action. Share your own e-waste collections using #ewasteday and let’s turn waste into opportunity!

  • 🤔Do you know that your electronic devices📱are an urban mine⛏️of metals? While they contain many critical raw materials, and other metals that are essential for our green and digital transitions, we are often failing to recover them, losing an opportunity to strengthen our strategic autonomy. We could tackle this situation and further develop our potential for metals recovery following three simple steps: 1️⃣ Collection: returning devices through an official takeback scheme 2️⃣ Treatment: proper dismantling and pre-processing 3️⃣ Recycling: using state of the art metal recovery facilities. At Eurometaux, and in collaboration with WEEE Forum, we are committed to raising awareness on this critical issue. Over the next few days, we will be sharing insights on how we can work together to improve e-waste collection and recycling and encourage the recovery of the raw materials that are necessary for our future. #ewasteday
