📢 Together with 26 other trade associations, Eurometaux calls for the effective implementation and transposition of the Corporate Sustainability #DueDiligence Directive (#CS3D). Our recommendations? ⤵ 1️⃣ Conduct a thorough competitiveness assessment to address business needs and close any gaps before implementation. 2️⃣ Ensure timely adoption of guidelines and legislation, ideally at least 2 years before compliance is mandatory, or consider extending the transition period. 3️⃣ Promote harmonisation of rules across Europe to maintain competitiveness and prevent fragmentation of the Single Market. ✅ This will be crucial to support Europe’s #competitiveness and reduce the regulatory burden on companies, while ensuring the respect of #sustainability principles throughout the entire value chain. 🔎 Read our statement here for more details: https://lnkd.in/dQZi5Twv

The energy⚡is still there after two days of #ECaBaM, the second in a series of workshops organised by Eurometaux to exchange with the European Chemicals Agency and key stakeholders along the whole battery value chain. These workshops ✏are meant to build capacity and exchange information and technical expertise on materials used in batteries in the context of the Art. 6 of the #BatteriesRegulation, where, with different stakeholders, we shared: 🔹Data insights: we explored the outcomes of the data-gathering survey that will inform ECHA’s mapping and substance list. 🔹Future challenges: we engaged in discussions around prioritization, waste and recycling -critical topics for ECHA’s ongoing work. 🔹Industry understanding: we delved into the key issues that battery producers and OEMs are facing, alongside the roles of inorganic and organic materials. 🔹Cooperation & expertise: we emphasized the importance of collaboration in expertise development and the early submission of relevant information. Many thanks to Sharon McGuinness, European Chemicals Agency’s Executive Director for giving the opening speech and to ECHA for hosting us. We also appreciate the great engagement and collaboration with stakeholders who have joined us in Helsinki or on-line: European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), Cobalt Institute, International Manganese Institute (IMnI), EUCOBAT, International Lead Association, International Lithium Association (ILiA), Vanitec - Vanadium, ECGA (European Advanced Carbon and Graphite Materials Association), International Cadmium Assn, Cefic, RECHARGE – European Association of the Advanced Rechargeable & Lithium Batteries Value Chain, Nickel Institute, International Zinc Association, AVERE, EUROBAT - Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers, EPTA GROUP, EBRA (European Battery Recycling Association)

🔄 Important insights for our Dutch-speaking network! In a recent feature article in De Tijd, our Sustainability Director, Kamila Slupek, joins International Zinc Association's European Affairs Director Howard Winbow to discuss the crucial role of #zinc. They highlight how zinc not only protects infrastructure like solar and wind farms from corrosion but also serves as a carrier metal for #criticalrawmaterials such as germanium, gallium, and indium. This article emphasizes why securing a European supply of zinc and its by-products is essential for the #energytransition.
Zinc plays a critical role in powering the energy transition, IZA’s European Affairs Director Howard Winbow told De Tijd in a recent feature article. Howard explained how zinc protects the steel in infrastructure, such as solar and wind farms, from corrosion and ensures longevity. Zinc also powers the batteries needed for energy storage. And as a carrier metal, zinc ensures a supply of critical materials like gallium, germanium, and indium. The article also features comments from Kamila Slupek, Sustainability Director at Eurometaux (European Metals Association). 🗨 The International #ewasteday is now over, but let’s keep the conversation alive! Today, we’re thrilled to share insights from our Sustainability Director, Kamila Slupek, on the benefits of recycling e-waste. To truly harness the potential of our discarded electronics, we need to focus on three essential steps: 1️⃣ Ease access to waste that contains metals – better collection 2️⃣ Ensure proper sorting and treatment 3️⃣ Guarantee that materials are recycled in state-of-the-art facilities – maximum recovery By following these steps, we will not only enhance Europe’s self-sufficiency but also better protect our workers👷 and our planet 🌍

📢 Today, on International E-waste Day and in collaboration with WEEE Forum, we're shining a light on the e-waste we've collected from our office, devices that often end up forgotten but contain valuable materials that can be recycled multiple times without losing their properties. Let’s commit to responsible e-waste disposal 🚮 and recycling ♻️. Together, we can recover critical raw materials and strengthen our strategic autonomy. Remember, your old devices📱can make a difference! Join us in taking action. Share your own e-waste collections using #ewasteday and let’s turn waste into opportunity!

🤔Do you know that your electronic devices📱are an urban mine⛏️of metals? While they contain many critical raw materials, and other metals that are essential for our green and digital transitions, we are often failing to recover them, losing an opportunity to strengthen our strategic autonomy. We could tackle this situation and further develop our potential for metals recovery following three simple steps: 1️⃣ Collection: returning devices through an official takeback scheme 2️⃣ Treatment: proper dismantling and pre-processing 3️⃣ Recycling: using state of the art metal recovery facilities. At Eurometaux, and in collaboration with WEEE Forum, we are committed to raising awareness on this critical issue. Over the next few days, we will be sharing insights on how we can work together to improve e-waste collection and recycling and encourage the recovery of the raw materials that are necessary for our future. #ewasteday
