Slovakia's cluster landscape: insights from the #ECCP's country factsheets! 📈 Retail, construction, and the mobility-transport-automotive sectors top employment in Slovakia, exceeding the EU's averages! 🏰 Sloavkia's capital, Bratislava, is home to 11 clusters and regionally relevant agglomerations in the Mobility and Digital sectors. 💼 The government's broad policies, such as 'Programme Slovakia', reference cluster support as part of a wider goal of strengthening cooperation between industry and research actors. The #ClustersMeetRegions event in Eindhoven 🇳🇱 marked its 19th edition, yet it still managed to bring fresh innovation to the forefront—reflecting the region’s values of openness, collaboration, and long-term thinking. These values shaped the event’s relaxed and organic approach to pitching sessions and matchmaking, allowing meaningful connections to form naturally. After two days of exchange, four words kept coming back: 💡 Talent In the first panel on funding, Steven Berens, Advisor at ERAC, emphasised that securing funding is not just about financial transactions, but about investing in talent. He discussed how funding can be leveraged to attract and nurture top talent, ensuring that clusters can develop and scale sustainably. The panel further highlighted the importance of integrating talent development into funding strategies to fuel long-term innovation and growth. 🎯 Focus In the session on how clusters drive regional and global impact, Søren Elmer Kristensen, CEO of Odense Robotics, pointed out that having a clear focus is essential for clusters to achieve success. He stressed, “Innovation happens when industry and universities work together in close partnership. That’s what makes clusters powerful.” The panel focused on how identifying regional strengths and establishing clear objectives are key to scaling and maintaining global competitiveness in the innovation space. 🛰️ Innovation During the panel on adapting cluster models to regional contexts, Akos Szepvolgyi, Managing Director of CTRIA - Central Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency, shared insights on how innovation thrives when clusters align with local economic strengths. He discussed how flexibility and responsiveness to regional needs are essential for the success of clusters, and that innovation is often the natural outcome of these adapted and collaborative ecosystems. 👥 Collaboration The day closed with a powerful message: collaboration is not optional—it’s essential. From the first remarks to the final wrap-up, speakers underlined that impact comes from understanding each other’s work and taking joint action. This spirit was present in every discussion and captured the essence of the Brabant approach. In the words of Sander Groenen, Managing Director of AgriFood Capital: “In the end, it’s not about making the impossible possible—it’s about taking action and doing what others may not believe can be done.” No need to repeat it 7️⃣ times: talent, focus, innovation, and collaboration are what make clusters thrive—and maybe, just maybe, that’s the Brabant way.
