About us
We are a consultative body that represents Europe's socio-occupational interest groups and other civil society organisations and gives them a forum to express their points of view on EU issues. Back to the 7️⃣0️⃣ 's! ✍️ In the 1970s, we were granted the right to issue own-initiative opinions, strengthening our influence, especially during key moments like the first EU enlargement and the creation of the Cedefop in 1975. 📜 Our contributions were taken into account in the Tindemans Report on the European Union, which aimed for a more politically united Europe. 🤝 In 1979, we redefined our role by reinforcing interinstitutional cooperation with the European Parliament, while continuing to provide specialised opinions on essential topics to EU citizens. We cannot let this happen again. The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction reminds us of the escalating impacts of climate change, as seen with the devastating floods in Central Europe. We believe that vulnerable groups are likely to pay a disproportionately high price for the climate crisis. To reduce this risk, we recommend: 🔴 a comprehensive political and social strategy to proactively boost the EU’s response capacity; 🔴 to provide vulnerable groups with opportunities to acquire skills that are valuable in the green economy; 🔴 measures supporting vulnerable groups based on a broad-based view, including the use of social policy instruments. Our democracy is stronger thanks to you. That's why we advocate for a greater inclusion of citizens in building the future of our Union. How? With initiatives such as the: ✳️ EU Youth Test which invites youth representatives to help prepare some of our policy recommendations, meetings and hearings. ✳️ Civil Society Week, where youth, citizens and journalists gather for vibrant debates on topics that matter to you. ✳️ Enlargement Candidate Members, where civil society experts from EU candidate countries participate in our work to facilitate their integration into the EU. #EUCivilSociety
