We are pleased to announce two new appointments to the EIB Group’s senior management team: 🔹Andrew McDowell joins from PwC ’s “Strategy&” as the new Director-General of EIB Global, leading our operations outside the European Union. Andrew’s leadership will focus on strengthening the EIB Group's international partnerships, ensuring we continue to support EU priorities for development and external action and to play a vital role in addressing global challenges. 🔹 Oliver Russmann joins the EIB Group as Chief Financial Controller, bringing a wealth of experience from Citi. In this role, he will be responsible for advancing transparency and streamlining financial reporting processes. We look forward to the expertise and perspective that Andrew and Oliver will bring to our mission.

Latvia faces a serious shortage of affordable and sustainable housing, with one of the smallest social housing stocks among OECD - OCDE countries.   We join forces with the Latvian Ministry of Finance and the Latvian State Real Estate Company to address key challenges, such as 🏚 poor housing quality ⛔ overcrowding 📉 limited mortgage access ⬇ low market activity.   Our Advisory Services will help drive implementation of policies to ease the housing squeeze in Latvia, supporting the development of up to 2,260 affordable and energy-efficient apartments for young professionals and their families.   Sustainable and affordable housing is a priority for us. In Spain, we are supporting the first centre for interdisciplinary and applied immunology research, expected to become a benchmark in its field in Europe. The EIB will lend €80 million to finance the construction and launch of a research centre established by “Fundación ”la Caixa”. Construction of the first module of the CaixaResearch Institute should be complete by 2025, allowing the first research groups to move in. 3 key takeaways about the Institute 👇 1️⃣ It aims to become a leading European centre for immunological research, focusing on autoimmune, neurological, oncological, metabolic, and infectious diseases, while attracting international scientists. 2️⃣ It will cover over 20,000 m², host more than 500 personnel, and foster collaboration with the scientific community to boost healthcare innovation and competitiveness in the EU. 3️⃣ It will be designed with high energy efficiency standards, and integrated into Sierra de Collserola Park, and connected to the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. 🚨 Latest news and updates from our delegation attending the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York: 🔵 We signed a new initiative with global partners to ensure a rapid response to health emergencies, changing the way we manage global crises. For our delegation on the ground at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, it has been all about strong partnerships to improve global health and well-being: 🔵 during a joint EIB - World Health Organization event, attended by high level representatives and founding partners African Development Bank Group and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), President Nadia Calviño and DG Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced an initial €10 million contribution to kick-start the joint Health Impact Investment Platform. VP Thomas Östros reminded the audience of the lessons learned from the pandemic, and the importance of cooperation to fill existing gaps. 🔵 President Calviño and Dr Tedros also took part in a digital conversation live from the SDG Media Zone on the links between global health and security, social infrastructure, and current healthcare challenges. 🔵 President Calviño attended the Women Political Leaders (WPL) and Africa-Europe Foundation events, stressing the importance of fair representation in parliaments and governments, and the role female leaders can play to address today's challenges. 🔵 Bringing clean energy to 300 million people in Africa: this was at the core of discussions at The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) event, attended by VP Östros. 🔵 Live on CNN, our President joined Richard Quest to outline the EIB Group's investments inside the EU and beyond, and our support to Ukraine's reconstruction and global health.
