🛞 Do you know how many used #tyres were generated in Europe in 2023? Our NEW Quarterly Update estimates they were around 4.2 million and they were either reused or retreaded, or came at the end of their life cycle 👉 https://lnkd.in/dWRAzWsC 🚗 Used PCLT (passenger #cars & light commercial vehicles) tyre volumes remain below their pre-pandemic peak, but used #truck & #bus tyre and specialty tyre tonnages were in line with pre-pandemic volumes. #Tyres #Bus #Cars #Commuting

🤝 We spent the last two days in Novi Sad for the ChemSkills Project Conference and to meet with other consortium partners. We heard the latest trends and developments in #green & #digital skills on the future of Europe's chemical industry from experts, #policymakers, educators, and industry leaders. Rubber is crucial to the European economy, and the ChemSkills project has a specific work package that addresses the challenges within the rubber chemicals sector. The #tyre and #rubber industry is working to develop skills, re-skilling, and up-skilling its future workforce to support the twin transition reflected in shop floor, R&D, and products. #EUProject #ChemSkillsEU #ChemicalIndustry #Innovation #FutureSkills #CareerDevelopment

🤔 How will companies have to prove that their products do not lead to #deforestation according to the incoming European Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR)? With the implementation date approaching, Federtyre and PneuBand invited ETRMA and other experts to answer this question for Belgian #rubber companies yesterday. The discussion helped to deepen the understanding of the EUDR and the practical solutions available to industry players. We thank TRAXIO Mobility Professionals for the invitation.

🛞 Our NEW Quarterly Update includes data on #tyre imports 👉 https://lnkd.in/dWRAzWsC 🚗 Total passenger car and light truck (#PCLT) tyre imports into Europe (EU27 + UK) have increased substantially in the past decade. Low-cost PCLT tyres from China have continued to gain significant share: by the end of 2023, volumes were over 40 million units higher than in 2015. 🚛🚌Imports of #truck and #bus tyres remained significantly above average in 2023, albeit lower than the highs of 2022, having declined by 10.7%.

🛞 Last week, ETRMA's team learned more about the end-of-life #tyre (#ELT) management ecosystem thanks to Circtec, Granuband and Reedijk Used Tyres. When you change your tyres, the old ones are collected and treated for material recycling and energy recovery Secondary raw materials can be extracted from used tyres and repurposed in our and other industries. In mechanical recycling, after removing steel and fabric components, shredded ELTs can be recycled for rubber granules and powder, used in products like rubber-modified asphalt. ETRMA has called for developing European criteria for materials derived from ELTs to enhance their market potential and ensure quality and safety. We will keep collaborating with stakeholders in the ELT management ecosystem to ensure regulations are aligned with real-world practice promoting #sustainability and #circularity of the tyre & #rubber industry in Europe.

🤝 We are grateful for the opportunity to visit Granuband's facilities and discuss tyre recycling trends with Circtec and them. Collaborating and engaging with stakeholders in the end-of-life #tyre management ecosystem is essential for a pragmatic approach to regulations, aligned with real-world practices, that promotes the #sustainability and #circularity of the tyre & #rubber industry in Europe. In this sense, developing European end-of-waste criteria for end-of-life tyre-derived materials is an important enabler of the circular economy, as it is for the successful implementation of the ecodesign for sustainable product regulation (#ESPR).

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 🤝 In our industry, regulations play a crucial role—especially when you’re involved in both waste collection and its transformation into valuable new products. At Granuband, we prioritize staying aligned with industry developments. That’s why we’re proud to engage with organizations like the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA), which works tirelessly to align regulations with real-world practices through knowledge sharing, research, and collaboration. This week, we welcomed ETRMA’s team to our facility, where we, together with Circtec, discussed current and future practices in tyre recycling. We wrapped up the visit with a factory tour. An inspiring exchange, reinforcing our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in the recycling industry! ♻️🏭 #TyreRecycling #RecycledRubber #WasteToResource

Last week, a 2-day workshop on #tyre abrasion was hosted at DEKRA France test center. Among the participants there were representatives from: ETRTO, UNECE Working Party on Noise and Tyres (GRBP), the European Commission DG GROW, RDW 🇳🇱 and the Technical Regulations & Vehicle Approval Office of the 🇫🇷 General Directorate for Energy and Climate Change. They had the chance to witness the implementation of the open road #TyreAbrasion methodology adopted by the GRBP, including: 🛞measuring the residual #tyres tread depth personally, each obtaining different results 👉 even this basic measurement needs specific training. 🛞the importance of the driver's ability to maintain the car convoy and follow its guidelines 🛞quick review of the speed/time graphs of the convoy and guest vehicles post-test The European tyre industry has invested significantly in this market assessment, and the UNECE tyre abrasion methodology will become the reference methodology of #Euro7 👉https://lnkd.in/dgZhTbAb #TyreAbrasion
