Ciao Torino! 🇮🇹 Today, the EVTA delegation is in Italy for the Internationalising Vocational Excellence Conference! ⭐️ Over the two days of this event, we explored strategies to empower Centres of Vocational Excellence, learned from pilot experiences of the Vocational Excellence Certificate, and discovered the latest tools and support services in vocational education! Our SG, Giulia Meschino also had the chance to contribute on the idea of creating a Catalogue of Vocational Excellence and the importance of international cooperation with third countries 🌍 💡 Giulia’s insights on the Catalogue of Vocational Excellence highlight its potential to foster a global skills alliance. This Catalogue will promote internationalization in VET, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and support lifelong learning, empowering the global workforce with transferable skills! 👏 It was amazing to connect (and meet again) with VET professionals from across the EU and beyond! On 8th March, International Women’s Day, we take the opportunity to reflect on the enduring gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Despite notable progress, the numbers tell a revealing story. Globally, only 28% of the STEM workforce is made up of women, and less than 25% of jobs in science, engineering, and ICT are held by them. Even more striking is that in the European Union, a mere 9% of inventors are women, reinforcing a clear need for enhanced women representation in research and innovation. These figures not only highlight a pressing issue but also point towards a solution. Vocational education and training can be the key to breaking down barriers and opening up new opportunities for women in male-dominated sectors. By equipping women with the specialised skills required to excel in STEM, we can begin to close the gender gap that has long hindered progress. At EVTA, we recognise the transformative power of education and are committed to driving change through projects such as the Connecting Women In Digital Project, dedicated to promoting careers in engineering and computer science for women, helping them to gain access to fields where their talents are too often overlooked. 💡 As part of the new STEM Education Strategic Plan presented by the European Commission on 5 March, the target by 2023 is for at least 45% of students in initial medium-level VET to be enrolled in STEM fields, with no less than one in every four being women.   This and other key insights were part of our discussion yesterday, 6 March, as we kicked off our EVTA Community Meetups series for 2025 with the topic “The Role of Women Pioneering in STEM”!   We had the pleasure of hearing from expert speakers who shared their insights, initiatives, and projects aimed at breaking barriers and empowering women in STEM, moderated by Patricia Tejada Fernández   Vera Leuner, Policy Officer at the European Commission, highlighted the EU’s perspective on gender equality in STEM, addressing the underrepresentation of women in roles linked to the green and digital transitions. She also introduced key EU initiatives and internal strategies designed to enhance women participation.   Phanuelle Satchivi-Acakpo, Pedagogical Advisor at Bruxelles Formation, presented the Electrogirls Training Programme, which equips 12 French-speaking women over 18 with hands-on training in electromechanics, followed by an internship that can lead to a permanent job.   Daniel Soldan, Europe Strategy & Special Projects Associate at Generation, introduced DigitHer, a 2023 initiative in Italy boosting women participation in tech training. The results speak for themselves: 174 women enrolled, 148 graduated, and 108 placed in companies, a significant step towards closing the gender gap in tech.   Ignacio Redondo, Responsible for the Adult Education Programme at CNAI - Centro Navarro de Aprendizaje Integral, explained how regional policies actively support women in STEM, including the Foral Order 40/2024, which reserves seats for women in STEM-related VET programmes.   Brendan Rowan, Managing Consultant at BluSpecs, introduced the Connecting Women In Digital Project, which addresses barriers to women’s participation in ICT. 🚀 Big day for the future of skills in Europe! Today at the #EUSocialForum 2025, the spotlight is on ensuring Europe’s competitiveness by investing in people! EVTA’s work actively contributes to achieving the objectives set by the four pillars of the Union of Skills, the newly launched initiative. Through our activities, we support Europe’s commitment to addressing current challenges such as skills shortages, the threats and opportunities of AI, demographic decline, digital transition, and social inclusion. ✅ Building skills for quality lives and jobs – Through SUPPORT SPHERE, we help young adults make career decisions by strengthening their social networks and offering self-evaluation tools. As part of ViP-NExT 2025, the Policy Roundtable on Digital Citizenship Education focuses on digital literacy, online safety, critical thinking, and responsible engagement. The discussion will also cover integrating these skills into VET curricula and supporting educators. ✅ Regular upskilling and reskilling – We enhance skills in emerging fields, particularly in STEM, where the WIDCON Project promotes STEM careers, especially for women, to address underrepresentation in engineering and computer science. ✅ Helping the free movement of workers – We support mobility projects and microcredentials, ensuring skills are recognized across borders. The MIC4VET Project focused on recognizing soft and transversal skills across sectors, while BASICC integrates microcredentials for better skills recognition. The PERSONA Project develops flexible learning pathways in agriculture to improve job opportunities. ✅ Attracting, developing, and retaining talent – Through our involvement in various projects focused on HR strategies and age management, we help equip managers, workers, and employees with a sustainability-driven mindset, while promoting concrete measures to attract and retain talent in the workplace. The HR+ Project is shaping a new HR profile for the twin transition and social inclusion, while IMAGE provides tools and strategies for age management in HR. We are also actively shaping the policy dialogue through the establishment of internal communities of practice with our members and our engagement in vocational excellence. These and many other initiatives will play a key role in driving the Union of Skills forward, and at EVTA, we are ready to be part of this exciting journey. Want to know how? ⭐️ Yesterday, 26th February, EVTA had the pleasure of hosting the Final Conference of the MIC4VET Project, a key initiative focused on recognising transversal competences in VET. We were pleased to welcome all project partners in person to reflect on the project's journey and share the main outcomes of it.   During the event, we presented the MIC4VET project, highlighting its objectives and key results aimed at enhancing the recognition of transversal skills in VET through micro-credentials.   💡 One of the event’s highlights was a panel discussion on "Integrating micro-credentials to address skills gaps in VET." We had the privilege of hearing insights from Anastasia Pouliou from Cedefop, M.Àngels Benítez Ruiz from PIMEC, and Dr Lyndsey El Amoud from University College Cork. Their discussion shed light on the complexities of implementing micro-credentials in VET, emphasizing the need for clearer frameworks and stronger recognition mechanisms to effectively validate transversal skills while enhancing trust among stakeholders.   Following the conference, the project partners gathered at EVTA’s premises for the final Transnational Project Meeting, marking the last milestone before the official conclusion of the project.   🔜 As MIC4VET comes to an end, we look forward to seeing how its outcomes will continue shaping policies and practices in VET across Europe.
