On March 12 and 13, 2025, Turin, Italy, the European Training Foundation (ETF) hosted two intensive days dedicated to vocational excellence. ETF organized an exceptional meeting that brought together various organizations to discuss the internationalization of vocational education and training (VET). I had the honour of representing EURASHE as a board member and sharing my insights on the panel concerning the integration of VET and professional higher education into the regional education ecosystem. Our countries, Europe, and the world are stronger when no region is left behind, and cooperation among different partners is crucial for making a significant impact. Educational institutions can and should serve as drivers in bringing these partners together. I have come to believe even more firmly that we need to dismantle the barriers between different educational institutions. Academic education is not superior to vocational education, and vice versa; we all share a common goal: to provide learners with the best education possible to help them succeed and excel in their lives and careers. From my own experience, I believe that Universities of Applied Sciences are in a unique position to unite both worlds and build these bridges. We have to acknowledge that we have a skills gap, and we should not underestimate the need to solve it. We must foster talent partnerships and collaborate with employers and regions not only locally but also on an international scale. The recently announced Union of Skills (https://lnkd.in/dXVrrJAg) initiative focuses on lifelong learning and skill recognition to enhance competitiveness while addressing skills gaps. This initiative supports our collective efforts in shaping the future of education with a higher impact on society.
