#CedefopHistoryDive This year, we celebrate 50 years of Cedefop and 30 years in Thessaloniki, Greece! 🇬🇷🇪🇺 The 1990s were a time of seismic shifts—the fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union and its satellite states, the end of the Cold War, and the wave of democratization across Eastern Europe. The EU itself was expanding, evolving, and decentralizing. Amidst this transformation, Cedefop underwent its own milestone change—relocating to Thessaloniki. 🚝 With Germany hosting the newly established European Central Bank, the decision was made to distribute EU agencies more widely. And so, from the urban energy of Berlin, Cedefop found its new home in the tranquil shade of Thessaloniki’s pines. 🌊☀️ A heartfelt ευχαριστούμε πολύ to our host city for three decades of collaboration. Thessaloniki isn’t just where we work—it’s part of who we are, forever engraved in Cedefop’s story and the European Union’s journey. 🇪🇺🚀 And a special thanks to our first home here, the American Farm School Thessaloniki. Stay tuned—this anniversary year is just getting started! 🥳🥂😉

#CedefopHistoryDive 📍 Did you know that Cedefop’s first home was in West Berlin? In 1975, fifty years ago, Cedefop was founded with a mission to shape vocational education and training (#VET) in Europe. 📍Its creation was related to the EEC’s 1974 Social Action Programme, which recognised VET as a key tool for youth employment, social inclusion, and equal opportunities. From the very start, European cooperation took new forms—pilot projects, joint research, networking, and exchange programmes that paved the way for lifelong learning. 🚀 Cedefop’s official inauguration in 1977 wasn’t just a milestone—it was a statement. The agency was placed in then West Berlin, at Bundesallee 22, at the very edge of the European Economic Community, separated from the then communist East Germany by the Berlin Wall. The decision, backed by the West German government, was highly symbolic: a demonstration that West Berlin was—and would remain—an integral part of both West Germany and the European project. 🇩🇪🇪🇺 From a Cold War frontier to today’s European VET and skills go-to agency, Cedefop’s journey reflects Europe’s resilience, transformation, and commitment to lifelong learning. 💫 Stay tuned as we continue our deep-dive into Cedefop’s history! 🚀✨

▶️Over the past days we've been happy to host the meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean Community of Practice on monitoring, supported by EU Employment & Skills, Cedefop, and the European Training Foundation. ✨ The meeting was full of fruitful exchange, specifically focusing on: 📍More and better jobs: employment creation and entrepreneurship. 📍Making labour markets more inclusive for workers and potentially vulnerable groups. 🗣️Cedefop experts contributed to the event by sharing expertise on topics such as #excellence and #inclusion in vocational education and training (#VET), and ways to support young #NEETs by connecting them to the labour market. #Cedefop50
