Working for a diverse, cohesive and vibrant Europe.
About us
The Forum of European Muslim and Student Organisations (FEMYSO) is a pan-European umbrella organisation for young Muslims, which has been in operation since 1996. Our mission is to be an exemplary European institution, bringing together Muslim youth to network and exchange ideas, developing them to achieve their full potential and working closely with our Member Organisations as well as other partners to build a diverse, cohesive and vibrant Europe. FEMYSO has become the de facto voice of Muslim Youth in Europe and is regularly consulted on issues pertaining to Muslim Youth. It has developed useful links with the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations and a host of other significant organisations at the European and international level.

Today, we remember the victims of Islamophobic violence and reaffirm our commitment to combating hate in all its forms. From Christchurch to Srebrenica, history has shown the deadly consequences of unchecked discrimination. Yet, Islamophobia persists - affecting young Muslims in education, employment, and public life across Europe. It’s time for action. We call on European institutions to address systemic barriers and protect the rights and dignity of all. 🚨 Islamophobia is not just a concept - it’s a lived reality. Let’s work towards an inclusive future where no one is marginalised because of their faith. Are Muslim Women not...Women? This #InternationalWomensDay, let’s talk about the challenges Muslim women in Europe continue to face. ⚖️ Access to the job market: Recent findings show that Muslim women, especially those who wear hijab, are less likely to be employed. Discriminatory policies and biases keep them out of the job market. 🏅 Sports: In France, the ban on religious symbols in sports stops Muslim women from competing, forcing them to choose between their faith and their passion. 📢 Representation: Muslim women are often left out of conversations on gender equality, even though their struggles show how far we still have to go. If we talk about women’s rights, we also need to talk about Muslim women.

📢 Breaking Barriers FEMYSO was proud to have its President speak at the “racialised communities, youth, and employment” discussion, highlighting the systemic barriers holding back Muslim and racialised youth in the job market. 💡 Key Takeaways: 🔹 Education or Exclusion? Muslim students face racism before even entering the workforce. 🔹 The Triple Penalty: Gender, ethnicity, and faith limit Muslim women’s career progression. 🔹 Degrees Without Opportunities: Many racialised youth are trapped in low-paid, insecure jobs. 🔹 The Economic Cost: Discriminatory hiring weakens economies and drives talent abroad. 🛠️ Action is Needed: ✅ Strengthen accountability in schools & workplaces. ✅ Tackle bias in recruitment & close wage gaps. ✅ Ensure racialised youth are in leadership. Inclusion isn’t just fair—it’s an economic necessity. 🔗 A huge thank you to Mila Paspalanova, Samuel Engblom, Equinet, European Network of Equality Bodies, Daris José Lewis Recio (he/him), Tanja Florath, LLM, Rossalina Latcheva, and Ana Baena Liñán for leading this crucial conversation. #FEMYSO #YouthEmployment #BreakingBarriers #EndDiscrimination

🌍✨ Shaping the future through youth participation ✨🌍 Our President, Hania Chalal, took the stage at ALDA’s conference, “Shaping the Future Through Youth Participation,” to champion the power of young people in driving meaningful change. From innovative grassroots initiatives to shaping policies that impact us all, youth are not just the future—they are the NOW. This event provided a powerful platform to showcase youth-led action, share best practices, and spark essential conversations on how we can collectively build a more just and inclusive society. 🚀 The message is clear: when young people lead, transformation happens. Let’s continue to amplify their voices, invest in their ideas, and create spaces where they can thrive! #YouthEmpowerment #ShapingTheFuture #Leadership #YouthParticipation

📣 "We need big tech regulators and everyone in the space to acknowledge the problem and be comfortable naming it." A powerful reminder from Alexandra Darby at the AI and Society House event by our partner, HumaneIntelligence, on February 9th. From biased algorithms to harmful narratives, AI can reinforce discrimination if left unchecked. We need transparency, accountability, and Muslim voices at the table to challenge these biases and build fairer tech. #AI #Islamophobia #TechForGood #BiasInAI
