🇪🇺 Yesterday, our Communications Manager Lottie Atkin attended an event held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, organised by the Directorate-General for Communication of the European Parliament - Cultural Outreach Unit The event was attended by 11 representatives from pan EU cultural organisations and eleven #artivists who contributed towards the #Changemakers exhibition, which was opening in Strasbourg after a successful launch in Brussels 💡 The full day event saw two debates taking place with MEPs, focussing on the role of women as keepers of cultural heritage with Lina Galvez, Chair of the FEMM committee, and the importance of culture in moving forward with societal issues with Nela Riehl, Chair CULT committee 🌐 The debates involved personal interventions from participants on the topics of women’s role in the arts, freedom of expression, ethics and political freedom, migration and caring for the most vulnerable - issues which IETM holds close and is keen to explore more in its upcoming activities Alongside the debates, participants received a tour of the contemporary art collection in the parliament as well as sitting in on a Plenary session in the Hemicycle. The event allowed for in-depth learning opportunities, networking with fellow organisations and gaining an understanding of how artivism can tackle the most pressing issues in the cultural sector in times of crisis A huge thank you to all organisers and participants for a fruitful day! 👐🏻 How the European Union can and must act to reduce discrimination against artists, cultural workers and audiences with disabilities Europe Beyond Access (EBA) - of which IETM is a proud dissemination partner - has recently released A Position Paper on the state of Arts & Disability in Europe. 🗣️ The Position Paper calls on the European Union through its various institutions to recognise the current marginalisation of people with disabilities and to urgently implement change In addition, it: 🔹 Identifies the legal obligations on the European Union and its Member States to support the right to participate in cultural life of citizens with disabilities 🔹 Warns against grouping the cultural rights of people with disabilities only within discourses on Arts & Health and the Working Conditions of Artists 🔹Encourages a structured dialogue between European Union institutions and artists and cultural workers with disabilities 🔹 Makes clear and achievable recommendations to be implemented in both the current and the next Creative Europe programmes of the EU 📖 Read the full paper: https://lnkd.in/dqB6riKu -- 📷 Filip Pawlak for Jestem Artysta (I am an artist) campaign commissioned by the British Council, in Poland - Ph.
