The World Living Soils Forum was all about discussions, connections, and sharing experiences. But most importantly, it was about solutions! This is what drives us at ChangeNOW: uncovering and shining a light on innovative solutions, meeting changemakers and entrepreneurs who are taking action right now for an ecological and social transition. We’re especially proud to have showcased 23 innovative impact solutions that are actively working for the health, protection, and regeneration of our soils. During two days, they had the chance to pitch on stage, in the gorgeous setting of Luma Arles. If you missed it, don’t worry—we interviewed four of them just for you! 👇 👋 The Land Institute Soilytix Bioani Sand to Green

“This day marks the start of an industry of soils regeneration that trenscends borders and sectors. Let us all go home with this energy. Let us engage for soils. Let us all be soils lobbyists and stewards.” Here are the words of our Co-Founder, Kevin Tayebaly, as we wrapped up the World Living Soils Forum yesterday. After two days that went by in a heartbeat, we're leaving more energized and determined than ever to accelerate the transition toward better soil preservation and regeneration. Among the many powerful ideas shared over the past two days, one particularly sticks with us, summed up in this quote from Marc-André SELOSSE: “Soil health is affecting our food, water, and air. We're here to fight for our human health, and that deserves all our effort and attention.” We need a holistic approach and we need to work together for soil health, which ultimately means human health. With 164 speakers from all backgrounds and more than 600 participants in Arles, China and the United States, we are very proud that we strengthened connections between so many different actors and sectors. We all have a role to play in this transition. That is why we launched a call for collective action, with the aim of mobilizing even more widely around the need to preserve and regenerate soils. 🌱 Ready to become a soil lobbyists? To commit and share the call > https://lnkd.in/dcya4MDE A huge shoutout to all our wonderful speakers, the innovative impact solutions that pitched on stage, all the behind-the-scenes heroes who made this event possible, and especially to the organizing teams from Moët Hennessy and ChangeNOW!

What a day! Day 1 of World Living Soils Forum wrapped up a few minutes ago with our live session from Napa, California. We barely had enough eyes and ears today to take in all the exciting discussions that lit up LUMA Arles. Even though it’s impossible to sum up such a day in just a few words, we'll try to give you a glimpse by sharing a few quotes and ideas that really resonated with us. 🎤 “To help accelerate soils health, we need to educate the younger generations, and make some big noise all together.” Louise Baker, Managing Director at UN Convention to Combat Desertification 🎤 “Soils health is affecting our food, water and air. We're here to fight for our human health and that deserves all our efforts and attention.” Marc-André SELOSSE, Professor at Paris Natural History Museum and Biologist 🎤 “When you revive soil that has been abandoned for 150 years, it starts producing and giving again.” Claude Bourguignon, Founder director of the LABORATOIRE D'ANALYSES MICROBIOLOGIQUES DES SOLS (LAMS) 🎤 “We need to move towards sharing natural capital: soil and biodiversity. Nature can't be amortized, it has to be maintained. In this respect, the agricultural function is totally different from any other.” Stéphane Le Foll, President of 4p1000 Initiative And our favorite one -can you guess why? 🎤 “We don’t have the time to wait for the next step. we need to change now.” Meghan Sapp, Co-Hub Leader at Hub del Norte Above all, we walk away with the understanding that soil health is a systemic issue: it’s not just a concern for farmers but for all citizens; not just for startups or companies, but a collaboration between both. Finance, policy-making, education, innovation: we must join forces to drive the transition forward! Stay tuned to find all the session replays on the event website > https://lnkd.in/eSrZ-dJ7 Moët Hennessy

3 key learnings our team brought back from NY Climate Week 💡 Our amazing team is back from New York, filled with energy, inspiration, and fresh ideas—though we’ll admit, there’s a bit of jet lag too! Since sharing is caring, here are 3 key takeaways they brought back from this vibrant event. What inspiring ideas have sparked a shift in your perspective over the past few months? Let us know in the comment section 👇 🔑 Garance, Head of Global Engagement “I came back with one key idea in mind: the urgent need to embody a new kind of leadership to steer this ship of transformation. Leadership that follows our intuition as living beings. Our intuition that connects the self with others. This voice that emerges when the ones of rationality and emotion are getting quiet. The voice of wisdom. "People are not the means, they are the end". And that is what NYCW 2024 has engraved in my mind forever.” 🔑 Kevin, Co-Founder & Chief Development Officer “Radical collaboration is needed to break down traditional silos. The transition can’t rest solely on ideals or isolated experiments; it must be built on the capacity to act at scale. The need to partner with those who hold the economic power and influence is necessary to drive massive change.” 🔑 Santiago, Founder & CEO “One of the most fascinating and important things I heard came from Maria Ressa, Nobel Peace Prize laureate. She explained that it's been proven that fake news and anger spread faster than the truth, and that’s a serious issue for our society. BUT, she also presented the following experiment: people were asked to share information using emotions other than anger or hate... The result? It sparked inspiration, and the good news is: inspiration spreads just as fast as anger!” Huge thanks to Climate Group and to all the inspiring changemakers we got to meet during this crazy week! The Elders Foundation, Global Citizen, UN Women, Parley for the Oceans and more… Special shoutout to the COP29 Azerbaijan Youth Climate Champions, who will be the first-ever youth reps at a COP this December in Baku. Our participation in UN Convention to Combat Desertification COP16 in Riyadh this December will be another occasion to nurture these connections and get to work together.

A seventh planetary boundary is about to be crossed 📈 The latest report from the PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research warns that "ocean acidification is nearing a critical threshold," posing “an increasing threat to marine ecosystems”. Oceans currently absorb about 30% of the carbon dioxide (CO2) we emit. However, rising greenhouse gas emissions are permanently changing the pH of oceans and seas. This has devastating effects on marine biodiversity and reduces the ocean's ability to absorb even more CO2. It also raises the risk of crossing critical tipping points in the near future, leading to severe and irreversible consequences for the environment. The model of nine planetary boundaries was first introduced in 2009 by an international team at the Stockholm Resilience Centre. These scientists identified "nine processes that regulate the stability and resilience of Earth's systems." If these boundaries are exceeded, the conditions necessary for life on Earth will dramatically worsen. For an insightful take on planetary boundaries that includes a social perspective, we highly recommend the vibrant talk by Timothée Parrique, Researcher in Ecological Economics, at ChangeNOW 2024. You can find the link in the first comment!
