Hiring - Fostering innovations in Real Estate

Multi-entrepreneurship is a nightmare. 🙈 7 years ago, I launched PropTech Lab 5 years ago, we founded the European PropTech Association and I tried to launch my first VC fund of EUR 10m 3 years ago, I launched RELEVATION (where the US giant CREtech bought 40% of the shares). I tried to launch my second VC fund (had a EUR 20m commitment from a Sovereign Fund, but couldn’t get to the first closing) 2 years ago, PropTech Lab acquired LuxPropTech, and launched the ESG RecAp - Resilient Cities Accelerator Program accelerator, in a joint venture with Belgium most sustainable RE developer Revive 6 months ago, we launched the UTH - UrbanTech Hub Hub, the first showroom and coworking space dedicated to UrbanTech in Brussels The reality is that managing multiple ventures isn't just about strategy and execution; it's about constantly adapting, firefighting, making tough decisions, and sacrificing on priorities. Our vision was clear since day 1: build a holding of subsidiary companies that are complementary and that can cross-fertilize. However we made 2 big mistakes: 1) having different shareholders in different structures, so they didn’t understand our group vision and our interests were not aligned. 2) not having (enough) cross-company functions in the team, so it felt we were not leveraging (enough) on the resources of a company to grow the other one, and vice-versa. It's exhausting and often overwhelming. But I keep going, revising, improving, because my mission is clear. 👉 Continue driving innovation in the PropTech and UrbanTech spaces to support startups in navigating the challenges of scaling, and to build ecosystems that foster sustainable growth. To all the entrepreneurs out there, know that the struggle is real, but so is the reward. Keep pushing, stay resilient, and don’t forget that every nightmare is part of the dream.

  • 💡 On average, €200 per square meter of material value is lost in typical renovation projects. Why? Explore 3 misconceptions from Imperfect, our standout Batch IV startup, in this video. 🚫The focus is on selling reclaimed materials The bigger issue is establishing a large-scale supply, not just selling the materials. 🚫Digital material passports are only for new materials Wrong! Reclaimed materials also need digital passports to track their history, ensure quality, and extend their lifecycle. 🚫The value lost by not reusing materials is insignificant In reality, it’s significant—€200 per square meter. Simply identifying a building's potential can help reclaim this lost value. ♻️With Imperfect, you can make waste management more efficient, sustainable, and aligned with the circular economy. ➡️ Explore more about Imperfect's solution at the RecAp Summer Summit. • 🌍 Did you know that nearly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the built environment, with 75% of Europe’s building stock made up of residences. This makes small, energy-efficient homes a powerful tool in the fight against climate change. As Martin Skea, CEO of ToGather Homes emphasizes, sustainable housing projects must go beyond just energy efficiency—they should address the entire process and supply chain. Using eco-friendly or recycled materials like timber and downsizing homes can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of construction. The message is clear: A holistic approach to sustainable housing is essential to reduce emissions and meet climate goals. 🏡🌱 📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/enWWAtVy 🌟 Follow us for more insights on sustainability and ESG in real estate and construction. #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenBuilding #EcoFriendlyHousing #SustainableConstruction #realestate #ESG
