The 2024 Market Monitor for #DemandSideFlexibility (DSF) offers an overview of DSF participation across 30 European markets, evaluating progress in enabling flexible demand through market-driven solutions. This edition highlights the rise of dynamic tariffs, especially in wholesale markets. However, despite its importance in balancing Europe’s increasingly electrified energy system, DSF has struggled to keep up with the rapid shifts in generation. The report emphasises that, while some progress has been made, most European markets still face significant barriers to widespread DSF adoption. Access the full report 📖 https://lnkd.in/gMTW_FKt

⚡ The Electrification Alliance met today with Energy & Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen to drive forward the conversation on smart electrification as the most cost-effective path to #ClimateNeutrality. The meeting was chaired by our Executive Director Michael Villa as part of our Electrification Alliance Chairmanship, and we are pleased that smart and flexible #electrification was at the centre of discussions. Electrification Alliance representatives highlighted the need to: ✅ Activate voluntary and market-driven flexibility from consumers where there is potential. ✅ Push for an Accelerator Strategy within the upcoming Electrification Action Plan, ensuring harmonised implementation across Member States of the 70 EU provisions on flexibility demand. ✅ Secure tripartite dialogues that involve providers of flexibility solutions. A smarter, more flexible energy system is key to achieving Europe’s clean #EnergyTransition. We look forward to continued collaboration with Commissioner Jørgensen and his team to make this vision a reality! 🌱 Giles Dickson Kristian Ruby Julie Beaufils Quentin de Hults Anna-Maria Karjalainen Paul Kenny Chris Heron william todts Julia Poliscanova (she/her) Antonella Battaglini SolarPower Europe Eurelectric WindEurope Bernard De Clercq
⚡ Today, members of the Electrification Alliance met with Energy and Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen to discuss the crucial role of #electrification and smart solutions in Europe's clean #EnergyTransition. This meeting provided the perfect opportunity to address key aspects of the Clean Industrial Deal #CID and the Affordable Energy Action Plan. The Electrification Alliance welcomed the inclusion of a 32% electrification KPI while emphasising the need for a stronger focus on electrification as the clear path to #ClimateNeutrality.🌱 Our members stressed the urgency of accelerating #flexibility measures, promoting efficient, regionally tailored network tariff designs, and ensuring fair market mechanisms to drive clean electricity consumption. Workforce shortages were also a key concern, with calls for state aid to support skills development. 👏We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Commissioner Jørgensen and his cabinet, working towards a more flexible and #decarbonised energy system; especially as we advance towards the Electrification Action Plan!

Today, the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) the Network Code on Demand Response—a key milestone in unlocking #EnergyFlexibility across Europe’s energy markets. We welcome this new legislative proposal that should ensure two key principles: 1️⃣ Facilitating an EU-harmonised access to all markets for #DemandResponse 2️⃣ Ensuring market-based solutions are the preferred approach for system operators for procuring flexibility For Demand Response to thrive, we need EU-wide processes, harmonised product definitions, and a consistent framework. Leaving too much discretion to Member States risks fragmentation, slowing down the clean #EnergyTransition at a time when we urgently need more flexibility. 🔎 Our in-depth analysis is coming soon—stay tuned! 🔗https://lnkd.in/dBQ_mFZn
