This event underscored the power of collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision in building a sustainable future. Solvay’s experts led lectures on topics like rare earth elements and peroxide process innovation, showcasing how chemistry plays a key role in solving global challenges. The students' enthusiasm and thoughtful questions reaffirmed that the future of STEM is about creating solutions that benefit both society and the planet. A particularly special moment came when we saw the son of one of our employees participating in the camp, exploring the same areas of chemistry that Solvay continues to innovate in. It was a powerful reminder of the far-reaching impact of our work, which touches future generations and their communities. We are excited to announce the official inauguration of our regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) process at the Green River plant in Wyoming, marking a key milestone in Solvay’s journey toward decarbonization and sustainable growth. This innovative technology alongside the coal phase out is set to drive a 4% reduction in Group-wide GHG emissions by 2025, despite the planned expansion of production capacity to meet the growing demand for soda ash. Our teams are driving us closer to our 2030 climate goals, ensuring sustainability and growth go hand in hand. We are working on reducing our carbon footprint, and there’s much more to come as we continue progressing toward carbon neutrality and supporting essential industries like glass, solar panels, lithium carbonate, and pharmaceuticals. At Solvay, we are working on protecting and preserving the ecosystems surrounding our global manufacturing sites. Across 16 prioritized locations, we are developing biodiversity roadmaps to ensure our operations coexist with nature and contribute to environmental regeneration. One example is our Rosignano site in Italy. The Santa Luce Lake, initially constructed in the 1960s as a water supply, has been restored into a thriving Nature Reserve. Now home to around 2,000 species of plants and animals, it serves as an important hub for research and education. We are honored that the IUCN highlighted this work in its 2023 report on corporate biodiversity efforts. Other examples include Paulinia, Brazil: Recognized for conserving over 83 wildlife species, and awarded Gold Conservation Certification. Torrelavega, Spain: Transforming a former quarry into a bird sanctuary and natural community space. These initiatives reflect our commitment to developing nature-based solutions and collaborating with local stakeholders to protect ecosystems. At our Cincinnati site, they are entering their 4th school year of partnering with the Adopt A Class program! Through this incredible initiative, our team connects with local students from underserved communities, building relationships, sharing career experiences, and sparking curiosity about future opportunities. From fun projects like making ice cream floats to explain states of matter, to tie-dyeing shirts during their lesson on rainbows, their monthly visits create hands-on learning and unforgettable experiences. They also host site visits, where students are walked through what the site does and showcases the manufacturing processes and how it’s done safely, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at how our products are made. These visits offer students a real-world view of careers in science and industry, expanding their horizons for what’s possible in their future. The impact is powerful. Students gain confidence in their ideas for the future, and our team strengthens leadership, planning, and communication skills.
