Meeting and exceeding food safety standards takes all of us. And artificial intelligence has a role to play! TOMRA Food recently joined food producers (Kerry Foods), food regulators (Food Safety Authority of Ireland, Teagasc, Government of the Netherlands), and academics (University College Dublin) to discuss the opportunities that AI offers our shared mission of maintaining safe and quality food chains. 🍎 🍊 🍒 🥔 🥕 🧅 🥜 We saw a wide range of case studies including: ⛔ Foreign material detection for post-harvest processing: machine learning with low latency detects and eliminates foreign material with more accuracy to preserve and maximize yield 🦠 Listeria management: using predictive modelling for food protection strategies for food processors 🔎 Monitoring and inspection: applications of AI and computer vision systems for improving accuracy and managing labor costs in food processing plants 🦺 Identifying food safety violations for regulators: using predictive modelling to identify an risk of food safety violations that might otherwise go unreported and undiscovered. It was an honor to be invited to share our unique experience in applying machine learning and deep learning for food growers and packers around the world. 🌍 #artificialintelligence #AIIreland #innovation #ireland #foodsafety
