Science-Based Targets. You've heard the term, but what does it actually mean? And why does it matter? 🎯 Science-based targets (SBTs) ensure companies aren’t just making promises, but actually taking action backed by climate science. 💪 At TOMRA, our SBTs, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), are designed to cut emissions with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to below 1.5°C, a critical threshold to avoid the most severe impacts of climate change. But setting targets is just the start. Achieving net zero by 2050 means transforming the way we design, produce, and collaborate across our entire value chain. Big challenge, yes. But the right one. 🚀 Learn more about our SBTs right here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d6fFNmtF

We've become used to returning empties at the supermarket, so why not reusable cups? ☕🚀👇 In Berlin, we've teamed up with Deutsche Umwelthilfe, REWE, sykell, and RECUP to test just that: returning reusable cups at reverse vending machines in selected #REWE supermarkets. No extra steps, just drop your cup where you already return your bottles. By plugging reuse into an existing habit, we’re making it easier than ever to ditch single-use waste. This builds on our Aarhus pilot, where a dedicated reuse system is proving that convenience drives circularity. Different setups, same goal: keeping packaging in the loop. 🔄 Each cup carries a unique ID, allowing us to track how often it's reused. 🔍 With real data, we can measure reuse in action, helping cities, businesses, and policymakers build reuse systems that work. We’ll keep you posted on what we learn. Until then, check out our reuse pilot in Aarhus👉 https://lnkd.in/eDKAuidN #Reuse #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Berlin

On March 1, #Quebec expanded its deposit return system (#DRS) once again. This time, the Canadian province's drink container recycling program has updated to include all beverages in plastic bottles. 🇨🇦♻️ Another big step to boost recycling rates and keep valuable materials in the loop. 🔄 Quebec first introduced DRS in 1984, but after years of stagnation at a 72% return rate, a reform was set in motion in 2022. TOMRA’s latest case study highlights how these changes bring more convenience for consumers, cost efficiency for the beverage industry, flexibility for retailers, and high ambitions for environmental impact. What’s new 👇 🎯A 90% return rate target – Raising the bar for collection performance 📈Expanded material scope – More beverage types now included to match today’s consumption habits 💲Higher & standardized deposit values – Making returns more rewarding ✔️Streamlining DRS management while modernizing the EPR for Packaging program Learn more in the case study, full video and FAQ sheet right here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dPHfUE2F #DepositReturnScheme

📢 Recently in Athens, TOMRA Collection Ελλάδας / Greece joined a working meeting hosted by Norwegian Embassy in Athens and Innovation Norway, bringing together key industry voices to discuss Greece's upcoming deposit return system (#DRS). The conversation focused on best practices from established systems, challenges to anticipate, and how to create a solution that benefits both businesses and the environment. One thing we’ve learned from decades of experience? 🔎 A well-designed DRS is about making returns simple, accessible, and rewarding. With the right approach, #Greece has the opportunity to build a system that drives high return rates, reduces waste, and keeps materials in the loop. We are really looking forward to seeing this come to life! ♻️🇬🇷

Better sorting, lower emissions ♻️👇 A recent study from IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, on behalf of Svensk Plaståtervinning, delivers a clear message: advanced plastic sorting is key to reducing climate impact. 🔹 High-value recycling with advanced sorting cuts emissions by 27% compared to incineration. Downcycling? Just 4%. 🔹 The better we sort, the more times plastic can be reused, keeping materials in the loop and reducing reliance on virgin plastics. 🔹 Policy needs to catch up. Current rules don’t distinguish between low- and high-quality recycling, but they should. The takeaway is clear: Better sorting = better recycling = lower emissions.
