🚨 According to the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, 74% of publishers are concerned about the potential decline of search in 2025. Recent data suggests they may have reason to worry. 📉 According to TollBit’s State of Bots report, the referral rate from AI engines is 95.7% lower compared to the click-through rate of organic search. ➡️ In other words, users are less likely to click through to publishers' websites when interacting with AI chatbots or search engines. ☝ That said, despite an increase in the absolute number of AI referrals, organic search still accounts for a dominant share of total referrals (roughly 40%, according to FT Strategies). 🫰This shift underscores the urgency for publishers to explore alternative monetization strategies from AI companies.
