If you're looking for support in better connecting your organization & journalists to audiences, maybe through user needs, product work or AI, Khalil A. Cassimally is now doing consultancy, and he's definitely one to work with!
Some news: I'm now doing consultancy work! As well as advising and mentoring teams and individuals at media organisations in different parts of the world. Really, my goal is to support media organisations and journalists (re)connect with people … to bring them closer to audiences. With a focus on user needs, product work and AI. 🤖 Excited to be working with the team at Fathm as an associate consultant, initially to support newsroom stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to drive strategic AI initiatives, as part of WAN-IFRA’s Newsroom AI Catalyst, sponsored by OpenAI. 🌍 I'm also looking forward to work with smaller newsrooms and solo journalists who are doing impactful journalism in the Global Majority. (I spent most of my life in Global Majority countries myself, and honestly, so many journalists are literal heroes.) As such, privileged to be coaching three such newsrooms, thanks to an initiative by the International Press Institute (IPI). 📩 And eager for you all to see what I've been working on with Madeleine White for The Audiencers. It's user needs related. 🙂 With The Conversation, I will now spend several days a week leading and supporting teams to deliver impact with predominantly audiences-related projects, as the head of special projects. Ping me if you think I can be of help to you.

Today it's all about data. We probably don't need to explain to you how important it is for subscription success, but data is often still a specialist topic that many people are afraid of. So that you can feel a little smarter in your next conversation with data colleagues, Lennart Schneider has summarized three insights from an interview on his podcast, Subscribe Now, with data specialist Dr. Ana Moya (ex. Handelsblatt Media Group and Funke). https://lnkd.in/e_wgUqDG

In 2023, Canada's media landscape changed dramatically with the Online News Act (C-18), aiming to ensure fair pay for Canadian media from major online platforms and redistribute millions to the Canadian news industry each year. However, Meta (including Facebook and Instagram) reacted with unexpected firmness, refusing any negotiations and deciding instead to block access to news content on its platforms in Canada. Overnight, for CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada's public broadcaster, a social ecosystem on Meta, including more than 106 Facebook accounts and 63 Instagram accounts, were paralyzed, making content inaccessible. Christophe Cluzel & Catherine Léger, PMP from the Radio-Canada team share how they reacted to this change, its impact on their strategy and how they're coping today (spoiler: it's actually made them stronger!) https://lnkd.in/eaDYCF9s

When developing pricing and packaging strategies for a subscription product, it’s often tricky to balance contrasting objectives. Maximizing acquisition, increasing revenue, boosting retention… it’s hard to do all these things at once. According to Jonathon Grant, Senior Director at Simon-Kucher, taking a customer-centric approach to pricing and packaging allows you to minimize these trade offs. Very interesting insights from our chat with Jonathon on The Audiencers: https://lnkd.in/efxWX8w5
