Exciting days at Let Expo in Verona with the intermodal community! ✨ 🟢 ⚪ 🔴 We had the pleasure of meeting our supporters and our Italian National Coordinator FERMERCI at LetExpo in Verona, one of Italy’s most important events for sustainable transport and logistics. The Fair brought together companies and institutional representatives to amplify the sector’s voice. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen ties with the intermodal community, promote our CT4EU - Combined Transport For Europe campaign, and dive deep into the latest developments for the Italian and international intermodal sector. We attended several events and presentations notably on new tracking systems between terminals, new business connections with Turkey or event ports’ strategies for economic and sustainable resilience. One thing is clear: Investments are in Combined Transport to increase Europe's competitiveness, sustainability and resilience! A big thank you to our members and CT4EU campaign supporters alpe adria, CargoBeamer, Lugo Terminal S.p.A., Mercitalia Logistics, Dry Port Terminals, Hupac Group, TERMINALI ITALIA SRL, AGIEREN, for the inspiring discussions – great to see you all there. Let’s continue driving the future of intermodal transport forward, together! 🚀 #LetExpo #CombinedTransport #IntermodalCommunity #SustainableTransport #CT4EU Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure occidentale, The port of Marseille Fos

🚛🚦 𝗛𝗚𝗩𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 €𝟭𝟴𝟬 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 We often talk about road congestion as an inconvenience—but we often forget that it's also a massive hidden cost! 📊 A 2019 CE Delft study estimated HGV-related congestion costs at €5 billion annually, but that could only be one side of the coin. The true impact of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) on congestion is likely far greater when considering: 🔹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 – HGVs are 7x more likely to be involved in accidents than their share of the vehicle fleet 🔹 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 – HGVs cause exponential wear on roads, leading to costly and disruptive repairs 🔹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 – HGV-heavy roads slow down all users 🚨 The total cost of EU road congestion in 2024? A JRC paper estimated the costs at ~1% of EU GDP in 2012. In 2024, this would amount €180 billion per year. The Solution? Shift to Rail & Combined Transport. 🚛 ➡️ 🚂 A shift to combined transport for long-haul freight (300km+) could: ✅ Reduce accident-related congestion by 10% ✅ Cut maintenance-related congestion by 75% ✅ Lower traffic density by 8% It’s time to rethink long-haul freight transport. A more balanced road-rail strategy can reduce congestion, improve efficiency, and save billions. 🚆𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆❗ Yesterday, the European Commission released the European Roadmap for Women’s Rights, outlining the EU’s renewed push for gender equality. While the attention is high, challenges remain – especially in our sector, where women represent only 22% of the workforce.  The Roadmap sets out long-term policy objectives to ensure equal employment opportunities and adequate working conditions, while the Union of Skills introduces measures to support upskilling and reskilling from a gender-sensitive perspective. These initiatives are key to attracting more women into transport, promoting equal opportunities and ending gender-based harassment at workin the workplace. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 💪 When organisations prioritise women’s empowerment and equity in the workplace and beyond, they help create lasting, positive change in society. A diverse and inclusive transport sector is essential for a fair future for everyone! #WomenInTransport #InternationalWomenDay #IWD2025 #WomenInRail

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗙𝗧𝗜 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨, 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. 📌 Such a major transformation presents numerous challenges, including ensuring interoperable system architecture, standardising data to prevent misinterpretation or errors, and maintaining cost-effectiveness and economic sustainability. Additionally, a successful launch depends on all EU Member States being prepared as well as the emergence of certified eFTI platform providers—some of whom are still in the early stages of preparation. Collaborative projects like eFTI4EU Project and eFTI4ALL Project are working to overcome these challenges. The reference implementation is set to give technical foundation for all EU Member States to use in their implementation of eFTI. This will allow a unified approach to: 1️⃣ Identify certification criteria for eFTI platforms, planned to provide and manage digital freight data from the private sector.  2️⃣ Develop #eFTI Gates, which will act as intermediaries between the certified eFTI platforms and competent authorities. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁❓ ☑️ National and EU-level pilot projects are underway, led by Member States. Six (out of 21) pilots are considered as intermodal pilots. ☑️  Development of certification frameworks for eFTI platforms. ☑️  Workshops, research, and stakeholder engagement to facilitate adoption. 📌 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 & 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 🔺From January 2025: Member States can start setting up the IT infrastructure needed to handle eFTI-compliant transport information. 🔺By September 2025: the European Commission plans to finalize additional specifications, detailing the technical and functional requirements for IT systems, and the certification framework for eFTI platforms and service providers. 🔺As of January 2026: eFTI platforms and service providers can prepare for operations, with authorities starting to accept electronic freight transport data stored on certified platforms. 🔺From 9 July 2027: full application of the eFTI Regulation begins. All EU Member States will be required to accept digital freight information via certified platforms. 🔺 2029: EU review of Regulation effectiveness.
