Our member, the Asia Pacific International Spirits & Wines Alliance (APISWA), recently launched a new report in collaboration with Oxford Economics highlighting how premium food and beverage experiences play a crucial role in attracting high-value tourists to Southeast Asia. ✈️ The report launch in Hanoi, Vietnam brought together representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and key industry associations. It fostered discussions on critical topics, including the special consumption tax, illicit alcohol trade, and unrecorded alcohol in Vietnam, one of the rapidly growing countries for the industry in the region. The premium beverage industry continues to make significant contributions to Vietnam's economy and tourism, driving value-based travel, increasing per-trip spending, and generating broader economic benefits. We’re excited to see how spirits are driving economic growth worldwide! 🌏📈   Check out the full report for more insights into the connection between premium spirits and tourism: https://lnkd.in/ez5A_pZM

On October 11, 2024, the Asia Pacific International Spirits & Wines Alliance (APISWA) and Oxford Economics, proudly launched the research report “Capturing High-Quality Tourism for Southeast Asia” in Hanoi, in partnership with Tuoi Tre newspaper. We were honored to welcome distinguished guests, including the Vice Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism, representatives from the UK Embassy, Britcham, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), Vietnam Hotel Association (VHA), Vietnam Society of Travel Agents (VISTA), and numerous partners from the tourism, hospitality, and F&B sectors. The launch workshop provided a platform to discuss innovative solutions and foster networking opportunities, aiming to build a robust ecosystem for premium tourism experiences, particularly in the F&B industry in Vietnam. 🔑 Key Insights from the Report: 👉 INSIGHT 1: THE F&B OFFERING IS ONE OF THE BIG DRIVERS OF DESTINATION CHOICE 👉 INSIGHT 2: HIGH QUALITY TOURISTS ARE ATTRACTED TO “PREMIUM” EXPERIENCES AROUND F&B Premium F&B experiences include: 💡High quality F&B products 💡A wide variety of options, that are convenient to access 💡Exceptional, personalised service and knowledgeable staff   👉 INSIGHT 3: TOURISTS ARE WILLING TO PAY MORE WHEN PREMIUM F&B EXPERIENCES ARE ON OFFER 💡Visitors to Southeast Asia are willing to pay US$250 more per person per day, on average, to visit destinations that offer premium F&B experiences   👉 INSIGHT 4: VALUE FOR MONEY CUTS ACROSS EVERY TRAVELLER SEGMENT’S PRIORITIES 💡It is even more important for high-income travellers than those travelling on a tighter budget.   👉 INSIGHT 5: DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF PREMIUM F&B MEAN MORE TO TRAVELLERS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCE MARKETS 💡This insight highlights how traveller preferences across Southeast Asia’s major tourism markets vary, and the importance of being able to tailor premium tourism experiences in a destination to meet the nuanced demands of different travel segments.   👉 INSIGHT 6: THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF F&B ARE KEY 💡For 84% of the prospective tourists to Southeast Asia that we surveyed, the perception of the safety and reliability of food and beverage options was “important or very important” to informing their choice of travel destination. The premium beverage industry has made notable contributions to the Vietnamese economy in general and the tourism industry in particular and we stand ready to contribute to promote value for-money travel, encouraging greater spending per trip and generating greater socioeconomic returns from tourism.

Together with the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD) and the World Brewing Alliance, the World Spirits Alliance on behalf of its members, have sent a letter to the Permanent Representatives to the UN in New York and Geneva, to reiterate our joint commitment to achieving the UN's 2030 goals on tackling the harmful use of alcohol, in the lead up to the UN High-Level Meeting in September 2025 as part of the UN's comprehensive strategy to tackle NCDs. The industry has made significant commitments and taken concrete steps to help tackle harmful consumption and underage drinking, by eliminating the marketing and sale of alcohol to minors through the following ways: 🔷 Aligning with global standards on eCommerce sales to prevent delivery of alcohol to minors and intoxicated individuals, with resources to support delivery agents. 🔷 Training and equipping retailers and hospitality staff to be empowered to sell, serve, and deliver responsibly, and to deny transactions as necessary. 🔷 Partnering with leading online platforms to promote standards for online advertising and influencer promotions, to develop robust safeguards against minors' access. The UN High-Level Meeting will be a vital opportunity to advance the UN's 2030 goals on reducing harmful alcohol use and we are ready to answer the call again in 2025, and be included in helping to deliver the final push. 🙌 #ResponsibleConsumption #IndustryStandards #UNSGDs
