Understanding common challenges can help teams work cohesively and achieve more impactful results. Here are 14 common team challenges and solutions, backed by insights from recent research: • Lack of Clarity: Unclear goals lead to inefficiencies. Research shows clear objectives can boost performance by up to 20%. Set specific goals, document expectations, and check in regularly to keep everyone aligned. • Trust Issues: Trust is crucial for productivity, with high-trust teams found to be 74% more collaborative. Build trust through team-building exercises. • Personality Conflicts: Diverse personalities can sometimes clash, affecting morale. Celebrating diversity can strengthen outcomes. Consider mediation when conflicts arise or adjust assignments to reduce friction. • Withholding Information: Holding back information can hinder performance. Model open communication and be transparent. • Lack of Communication: Poor communication leads to duplicated work. Effective communication can boost productivity by 25%. Establish channels for updates, meetings, and collaborative tools. • Reduced Engagement: Engagement is linked to productivity. Studies show connected employees are 50% more productive. Team Members need to understand how their work fits the larger picture too. • Excessive Staff Numbers: Larger teams can sometimes lower productivity. We find that the optimal team size is often 5-9. A structured code of conduct promotes a respectful work environment. • Opposing Goals: Misaligned objectives can reduce productivity. Regularly review goals to ensure alignment, keeping everyone on the same path. • Working in Isolation: Independent work can create misalignment. Regular check-ins help keep tasks integrated and team members informed. • Lack of Self-Awareness: Low self-awareness can create tension. Self-aware teams perform better.   • We think that group coaching, public or in house is underestimated. Why not give it a try with a group from your organisation and see for yourself. The next group coaching sessions with our founder Dr Clare Beckett-McInroy EdD MCC ACTC MP ITCA ESIA start mid January 2025 - a perfect time for deepening learning, reflecting, planning transitions and creating sustainable change for the new year. Structure We will meet for 2 hours twice a month for 4 months on Zoom at 6pm UK.  There will be sessions where everyone gets a turn to be ‘speed coached’ and other times when there is full focus on one coachee. Together we co-create our working relationship discussing confidentiality and other ethical issues, as well as logistics and in between session support.   How it works Group coaching is a powerful coaching technique for improving health and wellbeing habits, drawing upon personal strengths, connecting with life purpose and values, exploring ways to show up as a leader, ways to build impactful teams… (Armstrong et al., 2013; McDowall & Butterworth, 2014). Coaching in organisations has become increasingly common over the last couple of decades, with human resources, learning and development plus organisational development teams delivering coaching support on an almost daily basis.  We have worked across sectors globally coaching groups. For example, in one bank, tellers, branch managers, procurement and communication professionals worked together on ways to improve the system they work.
