We always talk about the funding gap for #startups trying to get their first-of-a-kind product into production, into scaling. But how — HOW — have real life companies actually found ways to bridge it? We looked at two real life case studies — Fervo Energy and SOLARCYCLE — to look at all the ways they found to stretch the budget from piggy-back on pre-existing schemes to chopping the project into smaller parts. A useful read for any startup in the same position, or for their investors: https://lnkd.in/eE8HfVGm #FOAK #scaleup #projectfinance #investment #VC #CVC

Here are more findings on the characteristics of smaller CVCs in this analysis. https://lnkd.in/eUjZd-vV #cvc #corporateventuring

While every other newspaper in the world was losing advertising revenue to internet companies the Times of India was managing to defend its market. How? It had an astute strategy of investing in #startups — names like Uber, Airbnb and Flipkart — taking a small share of their equity in return for #advertising. It allowed the young startups to experiment with print advertising and it built Times of India a relationship with these companies, which is paying off now that the startups have become household names. Arguably every #media company should have done this 20 years ago. Instead, we're in a situation where, in the US for example, 65% of ad revenue is controlled by just three companies: Amazon, Facebook and Google. Is it too late for traditional media to fight back? We're about to see, because Times of India is taking its model to the US with a new fund, which is already working with some media companies. Read our full story here: https://lnkd.in/eaWvQxPZ
