At SMA, we're proud to align with United NationsSustainable Development Goal 5, championing gender equality as a cornerstone of a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. 🌍 Here’s how we take action: - Leadership with diversity: At least 30% of our leaders are women, with a goal of reaching 50%. - Equitable representation: We only support events with diverse panels and ensure all nominations (from translators to experts) include at least 30% women. - Empowering women in maritime: Our partners and associates are active members of WISTA International (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association). - We're also committed to fostering inclusivity at our headquarters, featuring a kids area for our team’s children and a special needs toilet equipped with a diaper-changing station. Together, we’re building a workplace—and industry—that supports equality and empowers everyone to thrive. #Sustainability #GenderEquality #MaritimeLaw #Inclusion #SDG5

🚢 The maritime sector continues to evolve, with key trends reshaping our seas. In a 2024 article by Wolfgang Lehmacher, Richard Watson, Mikael Lind, Jillian Carson-Jackson, and Captain Sukhjit Singh AFNI, titled "Five schools of thought on key maritime issues," a new methodology named "Claros" was introduced. This approach involved maritime experts refining a list of issues, subsequently categorised into five schools of thought: - People, technology, and biodiversity - Decarbonisation - Protection and preservation - Infrastructure and capacity - Safety and security For more details, refer to the article on Splash Maritime and Offshore News (splash247.com): https://lnkd.in/e6yEwwuk Reflecting upon these insights, here are my thoughts on the current top 5 areas driving change in the industry: 👉 Geopolitical Uncertainties: Heightened tensions necessitate industry vigilance and adaptability. 👉 Tech & Talent: The industry emphasizes upskilling while embracing AI, automation, digital twins, and LLM-generated intelligence. 👉 Green Horizons: Accelerated decarbonisation efforts encompass alternative fuels, eco-friendly shipping, and sustainable port practices. 👉 Resilient Infrastructure: Ports are transitioning to smarter, greener models to ensure operational efficiency and continuity. 👉 Safeguarding the Seas: Cybersecurity and environmental compliance for sustainable practices remain major drivers of change. What are your perspectives on these trends? Share your thoughts below! 👇 #MaritimeIndustry #Sustainability #DigitalTransformation #SeafarerWelfare #GreenShipping

In cases of accidents, vessel owners may apply for limitation of liability for any loss or damage that occurs during the ship’s operation. Under international and national shipping legislation, it is possible for owners to limit their liability up to a maximum sum and mitigate the risk of financial damage from potential claims. Whether you are a vessel owner or insurer, the impact of these claims can be particularly damaging and have a ripple effect through your business. Here at SMA, our shipping law experts possess a thorough understanding of the Limitation of Liability rules and how they can be applied to damages related to casualties involving vessels.
