As the push for renewable energy grows, justice must be at the core. Business & Human Rights Resource Centre’s new report, co-authored with The Indigenous Peoples Rights International, highlights the role Indigenous leadership plays in a just transition. Key insights: ✨ Shared prosperity through fair benefit-sharing and co-ownership models. ✨ Free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) is a right, not a negotiation. ✨ Respecting Indigenous rights leads to stronger, more successful projects. Read the report below!
🆕 Exploring shared prosperity: Indigenous leadership and partnerships for a just transition As the transition towards renewable energy accelerates, justice must not be sidelined. Indigenous Peoples are at the frontline of the renewable energy sector's expansion - their lives and livelihoods often intertwined with the land coveted for the expansion. Our latest report, co-authored with The Indigenous Peoples Rights International , highlights the need for a rights-respecting approach to the renewable transition, one that fosters shared prosperity and fair and equitable benefits for all stakeholders involved. Key insights: 🔴 Benefit-sharing and co-ownership models can offer a sustainable and mutually beneficial path forward - but they must be fair and equitable and built on the foundation of three key principles: shared prosperity, corporate human rights due diligence and fair negotiations. 🔴 Free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) is non-negotiable. Benefit-sharing and ownership does not replace essential rights frameworks, including independent impact assessments and the right to FPIC. 🔴 Prioritising Indigenous Peoples’ rights in renewable energy projects isn’t just an ethical obligation, it’s a smart business move, which can lead to more stable relationships and successful projects. With over 130 countries pledging to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030, now is the time for policymakers, companies and investors to act. By embedding respect for Indigenous Peoples' rights into the renewable energy sector we can create a faster, greener, more inclusive transition. 🌱 Climate change is not just an environmental issue—it’s a human one. As wildfires, floods, and landslides sweep across Canada, one question stands out: Are we ready to adapt and mitigate further damages - and more importantly can we guide others through this critical transition? This moment calls for more than technical solutions; it requires leadership grounded in change management—the art of leading people through deep, systemic shifts. Effective leaders understand that addressing climate change goes beyond policies and technology; it’s about empowering people, encouraging collaboration, and ensuring that everyone can play a role in creating a livable world. There’s no doubt that our climate is changing, but will we? Read our latest blog post on change management and how it relates to climate change: https://hubs.ly/Q02V5CF70

We believe that effective leadership in climate action goes beyond just technical know-how. It involves cultivating essential soft skills (or as we like to call them, power skills!) that enable people to inspire, connect, and drive meaningful change within their communities and workplaces. Leaders who can communicate effectively, build collaborative relationships, and foster inclusive environments are crucial for advancing sustainability initiatives and tackling the complex challenges posed by climate change. This philosophy is at the core of ASI’s Members Network, where we focus on developing these vital skills with our members. Our network serves as a supportive community for professionals dedicated to making a difference, offering resources, networking, events and opportunities for collaboration. However, we cannot achieve this mission alone and need your help! Many talented individuals face financial barriers or lack access to professional development funding, preventing them from joining our network and growing their leadership skills. If your company is passionate about sustainability, become a sponsor of the network to empower leaders and amplify our collective impact against climate change.
