Osprey, which return each spring to nest in Banff National Park, often build their nests on transmission structures. This can cause an increased risk of fire or a power outage and poses a risk to the birds. When AltaLink discovered osprey nests along the transmission line between the Town of Banff and Lake Louise, it installed deterrents where needed, and built artificial nesting platforms in safer positions on the structures. These platforms provide better alternatives for osprey to nest, ensuring their safety and the reliability of the transmission system. You can learn more about the nesting platforms and AltaLink’s Avian Protection Plan—the first of its kind in Canada—in our 2023 Sustainability Report linked below. https://bit.ly/3zxtEqT

We are proud to share that we secured financing for the Central East Transfer-Out (CETO) project from the Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada. With this financing agreement, our customers will save approximately $135 million over the 30-year financing of the project. The CETO project, which we will construct and own with ATCO Electric, will help us reinforce the transmission system in the region while providing capacity for 750 MW of new renewable energy to connect to the grid. This financing agreement allows for the strengthening of the transmission system at a lower overall cost for our customers. Did you know that last year we completed our largest restoration project to-date following 2023’s record-breaking wildfire season? With 254 structures damaged, we needed to act fast. As a transmission-only company, working alongside our utility partners is crucial in times of emergency. Our collaborative efforts resulted in the rapid procurement of more than 1,100 wooden poles—almost three times our normal annual requirement. You can learn more about our wildfire mitigation and restoration efforts in our 2023 Sustainability Report. https://bit.ly/3zxtEqT
