Urban noise pollution is a frequent concern for city councils and municipal authorities due to its impact on the quality of life of residents. At Applus+, we offer services, expertise, and projects that address this issue holistically. One such project took place in Bucaramanga, Colombia, where we developed a noise map and installed a smart pole that enabled real-time data collection and the immediate generation of visual alerts to manage noise pollution from bars and nightclubs in a busy area of the city. This project provided a comprehensive solution, integrating smart monitoring, real-time analysis, and a cloud-based environmental platform. 👏 We are pleased to announce the following organizational changes in Canada West: ⭐John Lavric John will be taking on the role of Technical Manager of Applus Velosi Canada. John is one of the most tenured members of the Applus Team and has been involved in almost every element of the Canadian business. John has held roles in Operations Management, Turnaround Management/Planning, and has been provided a significant amount of support in ensuring quality compliance. In his spare time John enjoys being a new grandfather and taking his dog, Sidney, for walks. ⭐Tim Ryan Tim will be taking on the role of Business Development Manager, Western Canada. Tim joined Applus full time in 2020 as a callout technician and has advanced his career as a Site Supervisor, and most recently as Operations Manager for the Wood Buffalo/Fort McMurray Region. Tim has been a proven relationship builder and is witnessed by how his clients interact with and depend on his input. In his spare time Tim can be found at various venues around town supporting his son’s activities or running in half-marathons. ⭐Derrick MacGillivary Derrick will be taking on the role of Operations Manager, Wood Buffalo/Fort McMurray. Derrick joined Applus in 2021 as a Radiographer and since then has been instrumental in the growth and application of Advanced Radiography techniques within the Region and Northern Alberta. Derrick has spent 11 years in non-destructive testing and prior to that was a Senior Designated Officer and Officer in Charge with the Canadian Coast Guard based out of Saint John, NB. In his spare time Derrick has an infectious passion for motorcycles. ⭐ Applus+ secures Landmark Contract for Canada’s First IWEX Landline Initiative We are pleased to announce that the contract for the initial IWEX Landline initiative in Canada has been successfully awarded. This project marks a significant achievement in the deployment of advanced Full Matrix Capture (FMC) technology, using advanced Ultrasonic Testing (UT) techniques to deliver exceptional inspection accuracy and efficiency. IWEX (Inverse Wavefield Extrapolation) is a cutting-edge FMC technology that collects unique A-scans from each member of an array transducer. By processing these A-scans using techniques similar to seismic exploration and medical imaging, we can analyze the structural integrity of materials with unprecedented precision. This allows us to achieve superior results in defect identification, benefiting clients across a wide range of industrial applications. One standout feature of this project is the integration of real-time data analysis, made possible by advancements in computer hardware and software. This capability accelerates in field decision-making and reduces the probability of human error, ensuring a more reliable inspection outcome. The IWEX Landline program will set a new benchmark for advanced ultrasonic inspections in Canada, thus promoting the broader utilization of this powerful technology. This project will optimize real-time data exchange, improving water management, emergency response, and resource monitoring for over 7 million people in Bogotá D.C. These stations, aligned with the standards of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) will be able to transmit information to other information systems in the region, allowing better water management and emergency response. 🧡 Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honors the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day that honors the children who survived Indian Residential Schools and remembers those who did not. This day relates to the experience of Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwpemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation, on her first day of school, where she arrived dressed in a new orange shirt, which was taken from her. It is now a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. We encourage all Applus+ employees to wear orange to raise awareness of the very tragic legacy of residential schools and to honor the thousands of Survivors.
