📣 Important update for international students looking to study in Canada. Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada, announced upcoming changes to Canada's International Student Program. These updates are part of a series of changes to Canada’s International Student Program introduced since last fall. What You Need to Know: ➡ The Canadian government has set a target of 437,000 study permits for both 2025 and 2026, a 10% reduction from 2024. ➡ Master’s and PhD students will be included in the caps and must submit a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) as part of their study permit application. ➡ PGWP eligibility rules are set to change in the coming months. They will be unchanged for university graduates. They will also remain unchanged for public college graduates who graduate from a field of study linked to labour shortages. ➡ Starting November 1, 2024, all PGWP applicants will be required to demonstrate a minimum language proficiency in French or English. A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 for university graduates and CLB 5 for college graduates will be required. ➡ Spousal work permits for master’s students will be limited to programs lasting at least 16 months. We have explored these changes more on the AppyBoard blog: https://lnkd.in/giY36_Sn and encourage all students to visit for more information. #IRCCUpdates #CanadianImmigration #ApplyBoard

International study permit trends in Canada are showing a sharp decline in 2024, and the impact on the post-secondary sector could be significant. Our CEO and Co-Founder, Meti Basiri, recently shared these insights in an interview with The Globe and Mail, highlighting the challenges ahead. Key takeaways from our latest report: 🔑 Study permit applications processed by the Canadian government dropped by 54% in Q2 2024 compared to Q2 2023. 🔑 Year-over-year, we expect a 39% reduction in total processed applications for 2024. 🔑 If current trends continue, only around 231,000 study permits are projected to be approved by the end of 2024, marking a 47% decrease from 2023’s numbers. This decline isn’t just about numbers—international students contribute significantly to Canadian society. As other countries attract more of these bright minds, the long-term effects on Canada's GDP and the sustainability of its post-secondary education system are concerning. 📢 Exciting news for Francophone students! Canada has introduced the Francophone Minority Communities Student Pilot (FMCSP), a new program offering a direct pathway to permanent residency for 2,300 international students upon graduation, all outside the student cap. For students fluent in French and from an eligible country in Africa, America, or the Middle East, this program could simplify the study permit process and provide access to becoming part of Canada’s vibrant Francophone communities outside Quebec. 🔗 Learn more about the program and who is eligible: https://lnkd.in/gmtS_ERB #StudyInCanada #FMCSP #InternationalStudents
